Actually, if you read the comments in the OP article - there are things said that would account for the states.

Or it might be that a lot of Republicans are bad drivers and don't really care if they kill a person outside the womb.:rolleyes:

You have to take into account rural poverty, which the Democrats ignore, but which has gotten worse under Obama.

It's gotten worse under every President since we started shipping manufacturing jobs away and allowing Monsanto and other conglomerates to force out family farms.

No, this is a measurement of population density, not accidents per driver. Those who live in rural areas drive more miles and at a faster rate. Many residents in urban areas don't drive and use public transportation all the time.

It would've be a less misleading statistic if this was accidents per driver. And really this doesn't hold up, except it fits this writer's "thesis":
