This is a great point - NOTHING "man made" suggests that we should STILL ALL be using the SAME 7 day Creation Week that God gave us in Gen 1-2:3. But WE DO!!

NOTHING says that Jews and Christians MUST agree on the ording of those SAME SEVEN DAYS - but they DO!!

So when Christians who reject Christ the creator's Sabbath keep WEEK-DAY-ONE in honor of the resurrection they SHOW complete agreement with Jews on what day is SABBATH - the SEVENTH day!

    God alone is in control!

    In Christ,

    Saturday is the seventh day.
However, the Sabbath is an Old Testament law given only to the Jews, fulfilled in Christ and is symbolism which is fulfilled in Heaven.

Heb 4:9 But God has promised us a Sabbath when we will rest, even though it has not yet come.
Heb 4:10 On that day God's people will rest from their work, just as God rested from his work.

Col 2:16 Don't let anyone tell you what you must eat or drink. Don't let them say that you must celebrate the New Moon festival, the Sabbath, or any other festival.
Col 2:17 These things are only a shadow of what was to come. But Christ is real!

Col 2:23 Obeying these rules may seem to be the smart thing to do. They appear to make you love God more and to be very humble and to have control over your body. But they don't really have any power over our desires.

So, Bob, keep your Sabbath if you wish, but do not judge those of us who are not under the Jewish law.

I believe it is written that each man should be convinced in his own mind.

I am convinced that legalism is not for me.

Enjoy your Sabbaths, but I would caution you to study how it was kept and follow those rules to the letter.
It is not so simple as you might think.
Far more is involved than simply not earning a paycheck.
No cooking or travel for starters.
No eating out after church either, that is causing someone else to work, a no-no.

Jews don't even turn on the lights if I am not mistaken for whatever reason.
    So no football on TV.

And remember, if you want to keep this part of the Law, Paul says you must keep the whole law.

    SUNDAY

The first day of the week. Christians worship the Lord on this day because of the following Bible facts:

BIBLE EVIDENCE THAT EARLY CHRISTIANS WORSHIPPED ON SUNDAY:

    1. On the first day Jesus rose from the dead (Mr 16:9).

    2. On the first day Jesus first appeared to his disciples (Mr 16:9).

    3. On the first day Jesus met with the disciples at different places and repeatedly (Mr 16:9-11; Mt 28:8-10; Lu 24:34; Mr 16:12-13; Joh 20:19-23).

    4. 4. On the first day Jesus blessed the disciples (Joh 20:19).

    5. On the first day Jesus imparted to the disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit (Joh 20:22).

    6. On the first day Jesus commissioned the disciples to preach the gospel to all the world (Joh 20:21; with Mr 16:9-15).

    7. On the first day Jesus ascended to Heaven, was seated at the right hand of the Father and was made Head of all (Joh 20:17; Eph 1:20).

    8. On the first day many of the dead saints arose from the grave (Mt 27:52-53).

    9. The first day became the day of joy and rejoicing to the disciples (Joh 20:20; Lu 24:41).

    10. On the first day the gospel of the risen Christ was first preached (Lu 24:34).

    11. On the first day Jesus explained the Scriptures to the disciples (Lu 24:27,45).

    12. On the first day the purchase of our redemption was completed (Ro 4:25).

    13. On the first day the Holy Spirit descended (Ac 2:1). Pentecost was on the 50th day after the sabbath following the wave offering (Le 23:15-16). Thus Pentecost was always on a Sunday.

    14. The Christians met to worship on the first day (Ac 20:6-7; 1Co 16:2). Sunday is "the Lord's Day" (Re 1:10) (D.M. Canright, Seventh-day Adventism Renounced).

Since those days, the vast majority of Christians have always met to worship on the Lord's day. They do this in honor of the resurrection of their Savior. Christ was in the tomb during the sabbath, and rose as the firstborn from the dead on the first day. The sabbath signifies the last day of the old creation (Ge 2:2). Sunday is the first day of the new creation.

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE THAT EARLY CHRISTIANS WORSHIPED ON SUNDAY.

The Epistle of Barnabas (about A.D. 100). "Wherefore, also we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead."

The Epistle of Ignatius (about A.D. 107). "Be not deceived with strange doctrines, nor with old fables, which are unprofitable. For if we still live according to the Jewish Law, we acknowledge that we have not received grace ... If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death."

Justin Martyr (about A.D. 140). "And on the day called Sunday all who live in cities or in the country gather together in one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read. ... But Sunday is the day on which we all hold a common assembly, because it is the First day of the week on which God ... made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead."

Bardesanes, Edessa (A.D. 180). "On one day the first of the week, we assemble ourselves together."

Clement of Alexandria (A.D. 194). "He, in fulfillment of the precept, according to the gospel, keeps the Lord's Day ... glorifying the Lord's resurrection in himself."

Tertullian (A.D. 200). "We solemnize the day after Saturday in contradiction to those who call this day their sabbath."

Irenaeus (about A.D. 155-202). "The Mystery of the Lord's Resurrection may not be celebrated on any other day than the Lord's Day, and on this alone should we observe the breaking off of the Paschal Feast."

Cyprian (A.D. 250). "The eighth day, that is, the first day after the sabbath, and the Lord's Day."

Apostolic Constitutions (A.D. 250). "On the day of the resurrection of the Lord-that is, the Lord's Day-assemble yourselves together without fail, giving thanks to God and praising Him for those mercies God has bestowed upon you through Christ."

Anatolius (A.D. 270). "Our regard for the Lord's resurrection which took place on the Lord's Day will lead us to celebrate it."

Peter, Bishop of Alexandria (A.D. 306). "But the Lord's Day we celebrate as a day of joy, because on it, he rose again."

I will also add that Christ wants our firstfruits. If the 'cults' as Jim1999 calls them, want to wait til the end of the week, then they are not giving him due recompense but he will render to them their due recompense.

I agree with Jim. I will worship on the first day of the week as the early disciples did.

"Someone here said" that EVERY mention of "week-day-one" is a sign we should worship on that day!!

Hmm - how "well grounded" is that logic? Exegesis by contrast would be far more compelling.

Nothing in here about a day of worship.

RATHER the SIGN that it is NOT a Holy is given by the fact that it continues to be called "week-day-one" instead of some "Honored Term" like "Sabbath" or "Lord's Day" EVEN the many years after the Cross where Mark is writing!

Jesus was WITH His disciples EVERY DAY prior to the cross - and that was NOT a sign that His own Sabbath - Holy Day had been replaced pre-cross by an "every day" Holy Day.

Also Jesus was WITH His disciples every day over a period of 40 days AFTER the cross - also NOT a sign that EVERY day was their day of worship.

Here are other texts where they are NOT gathered for worship on "week day one"

NOTHING in these references show a "7 day cycle". These are all "one time events" -- NO act of worship on a 7 cay cycle is mentioned here at all!

Fascinating what man's tradition can "insert" instead of yielding to the very basics of exegesis.

    Another "One Time act"

not a "weekly cycle" in that at all. No indication at all that 40 days after the resurrection would be a "week-day-one" especially if Christ ROSE on "week-day-one" as we all believe.

If John writing many decades AFTET the resurrection had wanted to show either a 7 day CYCLE or a command to worship OR a term of honor it is also "conspicuously missing" from his reference to this event in John 20 and "week day one" instead of "Lord's Day"!! Further he never says "Lord's Day IS week day one" -- yet Christ the Creator says "The Seventh day IS the Sabbath"!

    The contrast is "Instructive"

    In Christ,

    Bob

    Bob,

The Sabbath was to be a day of rest, not worship. So your exegesis doesn't hold water.

Rest meant no cooking, no manual labor, no traveling for distances more than about .8 of a mile. The list goes on and one.

If you are insisting on keeping the Sabbath as set forth for the Israelites, you must keep it to a tee. There are 613 laws set forth for the Israelites. Do you keep them all? If not, you are guilty of them all.

By the measure you judge others, you yourself will be judged.

    Diggin,

Bob has spiritual blinders on and spiritual cotton in his ears as well. His posts show evidence of this. He will not hear, nor see the truth.

Are we casting pearls of wisdom before swine? Are they being trodden underfoot?

Maybe instead of asking Bob why he keeps the Sabbath, we should ask him which laws he discards and why?

Maybe we should ask Bob exactly how he keeps the Sabbath.
Does he do it strictly according to the Old Testament laws?
Or does he discard portions of the Sabbath Law as he discards portions of the Old Testament Law itself.
    "Exegesis by contrast would be far more compelling." {Bob Himself}
While demanding proper exegesis from others, Bob's whole process consists of eisigesis.

He finds verses about keeping the Sabbath and ignores the clear fact that it was for the Jews living in Israel and that even the Jews are no longer under the law.

He ignores the fact that Paul tells the Collossians not to let anyone judge them in regard to Sabbaths, clear evidence that the Sabbath is not required to be kept by Christians.

Paul met with Jews in the synogouges on the Sabbath because that is when the Jews met, not because he believed in Sabbath keeping.

He would find poor attendence from the Jews on Sunday.

Due to the lazy streak I have, I'll just take advantage of modern technology and "copy and past" this post over from another thread, since it applies here.

    I'll just add this...

"Do not forsake the assembling of yourself together, as is the manner of some."

I sure dont see a particular day mentioned in there anywhere. Or even that it has to be once per week.

Personally, I really miss it when I have to miss a week. It makes it that much sweeter the following week when I'm back, though!

    Grace and peace,

    Mike

The Genesis 2:3 text says that it was "sanctified and blessed" by God "because" He rested on that day.

In Exodus 20:8-11 the point is made that "because" of that Gen 2:3 fact alone (in fact because of the Gen 1-2:3 fact of the 7 days of creation week as Exodus 20 points out) mankind is obligated to "keep it holy".

In Lev 23:1-3 we see that it is a "day of worship".

In Isaiah 66: God declares that it is a day for "All mankind to come before Me to Worship" even in so far as the "New Heavens and New Earth".

To argue the statement you have made about the day NOT being a day for worship is to argue against the text itself.

God views Worship as rest from daily mundane persuits.

    In Christ,

    Bob

That is easy. The laws that do not require animal sacrifices (since Hebrews 10 says the animal sacrifice laws ended at the cross). And the laws that are not specific to the civil laws for the nation of Israel.

So that includes things like - The Ten Commandments according to Eph 6 and Romans 7 and James 2.

In Eph 6 we see that the 5th commandment is the "FIRST" commandment in that specific unit "with a promise".
