Don't freak out. Just be informed. We've seen this coming for a while. Write your letter, and let them know how you feel. I've never given the MPAA much credit for determining anything about the appropriateness of a movie anyway.

If a movie had an overt religious message, I'd sure want to know what it was before I took my kdis.
Wouldn't you want to know if a movie was proslytizing for Wicca? Don't youi think people of other faiths would want to know about this film?
After all, the rating does not, as someone said, label the movie as evil. It just says that there are things in it some parents might find objectionable. That someone might find the overt promotion of a Christian sect to be disturbing may bother you. But not everyone is of a particular Christian sect.
Unless the producers were intending to be deceptive, I would think they'd be happy to get that rating.

Paganism IS in many movies today that are rated G. Take the Pokemon movies for example. The problem is that Christians don't see other religions as religions. We are not familiar with what is really going on.

This is true, BUT there is only ONE True and Living God!
We don't stand up for Wicca, we don't defend buddah and we certainly don't want our country infiltrated by Islam!
One problem we have with movies is that Christians have all too often given over the censoring of movies to a non Christian source. Christian fathers should rate their own films by Christian standards.
If the rules for ratings are not based with Christian values, then by what values are they rated? If they are not rated with Christian values, why do we rate movies R for nudity?
In many cultures, they do not have a problem with nudity in the way that we do because of Christian influence!
This is more important that many realize!

The problem is that Americans don't agree on that. So any rating must take into account those differences.
Well, that's the point. Those people are also Americans, and they count, too.
Remember, this is not censorship, just advising people what's in the film. There are, BTW, a number of religious/family oriented rating sites. Use them, if you want.
They should just make people aware of what's in them, and then let people decide.
Because many people (including some Christians) object to nudity in movies. Therefore, it's good to let people know that there is nudity in particular movies.
I think Israel and Islamic countries also consider nudity to be at least potentially objectionable.
I am sorry, I was unclear. I didn't mean that the ratings were censoring, they are just rating, but Christian fathers should censor what is played in their own homes.
They should not use a non Christian rating system to base their choices on.
That is true, but the ratings ARE a rating of morality, they don't just say what is in them, they give a rating and carry with them an age that is suggested for viewing.

It works on non-Christian movies too. For example, "Baptists at our Barbecue", a movie with a strong leniency towards mormonism, it rated PG with "thematic elements" listed as the cause, along with mild violence. I see more violence in Bugs Bunny than I saw in this movie, so I'm assuming that the primary cause of the rating was the thematic element.
So no need for panic. We've never lived in a Christian nation. We weren't founded on Christianity. I don't know why everyone thinks we were. We were founded on the murder of innocents, theft, and the backs of people we oppressed.
Not much has changed, and I wouldn't expect it to anything but get worse.
So does this mean I'm happy with the idea of Christianity being a PG thing? No, I'm fine with false religions having the label.
I'm just not suprised. We have about the greatest nation on earth, and probably one with a higher number of Christians than most, but that doesn't make us a Christian country. It makes us a wicked country with a higher-than-average number of Christians within.

You are saying that the rateing group should be biased in favor of Christian movies. What happens if/when Christians are no longer a majority in this country. Would you be happy if the bias went the other way. Is it not better that the rateings board rates objectivly any thematic movie gets a PG weather it is Baptist, Mormon, Islam, Horror, Catholic.
And then the parents can decide what their kids watch. That is what the rateing is for anyway just to say parents keep and eye on this one. These movies are rated for a broad population of people with all kinds of beliefs. If the movie was only for Baptists to watch it would not need a rateing at all, just let the pastor approve it. But the movie is distributed to the population as a whole.
When you live in Utah where everything is biased toward Mormonisem. Things that are fair across the board look pretty good.

Yes, I agree but a lot of Christian parents do go by the ratings.
NOt everyone thinks we were, just ones that have read history!
The ratings CAN'T be neutral. Why is an R rated movie worse than a G rated movie and why?
Who is the source of law?
Christians are being fooled into thinking that anything can be void of all religion in a governing body. That is impossible, they have to have a basis for their moral foundation!
That foundation will either be Christian, or it will be anti Christian.
I am not trying to change the MPAA, I just think Christians should see them for what they are and ignore them.
