SLAMABAD: Religious scholars from all schools of thought on Saturday issued a fatwa (religious decree) that declared suicide attacks, armed insurgency against a state and use of force in the name of imposing Shariah as ‘Haram’ or forbidden in Islam.

The fatwa carrying signatures of 31 noted scholars was released at a seminar “'Reconstruction of Pakistani society in the light of 'Mithaq-e-Madina' (Charter of Madina) and announcement of 'Paigham-e-Pakistan' (Message of Pakistan). The event was organised by the Islamic Research Institute of the International Islamic University Islamabad.

The unanimous declaration was presented by Professor Masoom Yasinzai while Mufti Rafi Usmani read out the fatwa. The religious edict condemned terrorism and extremism and declared suicide attackers and their supporters as traitors. It also declared Jihad a jurisdiction of Islamic state and disallowed use of force in name of enforcement of Islamic laws.

On the occasion, a unanimous decalartion titled 'Paigham-e-Pakistan', also signed by religious scholars from all schools of thought, was presented. Paigham-e-Pakistan called for action against the forces fanning extremism, true implementation of the law dealing with blasphemy and discouraging mob justice in this regard.

The mosques of both the Manchester bomber and the London Bridge jihadis reported concerns about the men concerned to the security services but no action was taken. A failure more of MI5 and the police rather than the Muslim community

We can hope but don't hold your breath and suffer death by hypoxia rather than decapitation.

I think you may find that it applies specifically to the situation in Pakistan.
That in itself will be good if it stops Christians being blown to pieces while worshipping in their churches.

Before I'd start crowing about this, I'd note this is one group of scholars from a country which is not seen as having top line scholars as do Egypt and Saudi Arabia. IOW, these ruling might maybe make a difference in Pakistan, but I don't see them as holding any weight outside that country.

I wonder if there is anyone reporting this other than some obscure websites no one has heard of before. Any news agencies?

It's an obscure Fatwa from some obscure islamic scholars reported by an obscure news source.

It means nothing to the rest of the world. That makes it a valuable topic to ctb.

Every once in a while someone in the Islamic community will say something, but it is usually few and far between. As a result it is not trust worthy. We know that among Muslims it is morally acceptable to lie to "infidels". I want to see their verbal opposition frequent, loud, almost obnoxious, and I want to see their physical opposition as well to the point that they are willing to defend anyone these extremists attack even with their own lives.

What I do see is Islamist's more worried about public perception of themselves than they are standing against these terrorists. If they would take care of the latter the former would also be taken care of at the same time. So I do not respect their cries of Xenophobia and neither do I believe them. It is all propaganda.

Do you think a fatwa is important?

If so, why?

Gee, what's a proper Muslim to believe anymore?
... their scriptures or a declared fatwa by some unfamiliar source?

A proper reading of their scriptures radicalizes them...

...and allows deception of the infidels in order to achieve their goal.

Because of course our Scriptures contain no verses inciting violence!

See this is an irresponsible and regular statement made by the extreme far left. Trying to make some moral equivalence between the word of God and the heretical books of Islam is reckless and evil.

Again, all you have is insult - you can't or won't engage in the discussion. It's a perfectly valid statement.
