Remembering Richard Nixon

As the George W. Bush administration continues to descend into depths dangerous not only for we Americans but for the world as a whole the Nixon administration is starting to look better and better in comparison.

 

Ken, I don't see how one can say that Bush resembles Nixon except on spending and on a certain neglect of social issues. Do we agree that they are both the same type of Republicans? That is, they are not Reagan Republicans and neither Nixon nor Bush showed any interest in shrinking the size of government.

I think that Graham was misinformed about the extent of Jewish influence in the media. As to their involvement in the pornography filth, I have no idea but I do know that there are Jewish criminals. Some Jews are returning to the GOP but the majority of Jews are still block voters for the Democrats as are Black voters and sodomite voters.

The truth is, Nixon was the last of the New Deal-era liberal presidents. He sponsored and signed the legislation creating the Environmental Protection Agency, the Water Quality Improvement Act and the Endangered Species Act. He oversaw the establishment of Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Nixon created the Philadelphia Plan, the springboard for racial quotas; pushed for Title IX (the women's "equality" law); and hired Leon Panetta (later Bill Clinton's chief of staff) as his director of the office of civil rights.

Nixon pushed aggressively for national health insurance that would cover 100 percent of the nation's poor children. He increased federal spending on health and education programs by more than 50 percent and massively boosted spending on the National Endowment for Humanities. He tried to increase welfare with his Family Assistance Plan and Child Development Act.

Economically, Nixon got along swell with the chamber of commerce crowd, but he was well to the left of almost any leading Democrat today, championing wage and price controls as a legitimate tool of state, and boasting "Now I am a Keynesian in economics."

I agree as the Bush adminstration's foreign policy, especially during its first term, has been a disaster for the United States and the world. President Nixon's foreign policy was way, way, way more prudent than this administration's.

 

I have to disagree on that issue also, Ken. Nixon allowed the Democrats in Congress to bring the end to the Viet Nam war by US withdrawal.

The result was a bloodbath staged by the communists and the slaughter of our former allies in Viet Nam. It also brought open contempt for the USA that has haunted the American people to this day as shown by the fact that we have very few military allies in the current struggle against Islamofascism.

But we agree that both Nixon and Bush favor big government and big spending.

 

We spent about six years and lost over 50,000 of America's finest in Vietnam. We couldn't stay there forever and continue to suffer losses of that size. The problem was not the withdrawal of our troops but the cutting off of military aid to South Vietnam when it was needed most.

 

That war was mismanaged by Johnson who insisted on making military decisions himself and insisted upon installing rules of engagement. Nixon should have reversed the course and challenged the Democrats in Congress to back off and allow a military victory. The damage done to America's credibility in war is being seen to this day.

 

By the time Nixon took office the American people were looking for a way out, not a way to victory.

 

I didn't think I would ever say this, but if I had a choice between Nixon in the White House and George Bush, I'd choose Nixon!

 

That's right KenH. As I recall one of the campaign promises that Nixon made was he had a plan to get us out of Viet Nam. I don't think that his plan was any different than anybody elses but he did a better job of selling this over to the American people.

 

Nixon was a good American, a good president, and everything he did Bush has done and more.
