WHOA! PUMP THE BRAKES. Turn to God and not turn to Christ?!?!? Do you believe Christ IS God? Sure sounds like it, but I'll let you explain.....

BTW, Christ IS God...

First off you missquoted me. If you read your bible like you read what I said I understand why you hold to repentance of sin for salvation instead of what it says. I am simply stating what scripture says. It is up to you to believe if it is correct or not. Follow scripture or follow your own way.

Yes, you're stating scripture, but ripping the context to itty-bitty shreds....

Than according to scripture you understand incorrectly. Do that and you lose your soul. Why do you think Jesus said many are called but few are chosen. Also many will say Lord, Lord only to hear "I never knew you"? They are very religious and all believe in Jesus according to Mat. but they are still lost.

They had their own brand of repentance instead of doing it God's way. It is called the burgerking mentality or the spirit of Cain.

Perhaps you would explain why I "understand incorrectly", rather than simply declaring it so.

To turn to something, one must usually reject something else.

Your question is off topic and non responsive, but the answer is yes.

Thank you, and no, it's not off topic. You said we don't turn to Christ, but turn to God. When you turn to Christ, you repent, you turn from your sinful self, and turn to Christ, who is God. Christ come unto me all who are weery and heavy laden. Why would Christ say this, and you say to not turn to Him?

Acts 11:18and they, having heard these things, were silent, and were glorifying God, saying, `Then, indeed, also to the nations did God give the reformation to life.'

Romans 2:4 or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, dost thou despise? -- not knowing that the goodness of God doth lead thee to reformation!

Hello Rolf
This is what you wrote;
"I understand repentance (in this thread's context) to be something that is twofold: 1. Rejection of the practice of sin., and 2. Acceptance of Christ as the alternative.

First off Christ is not an alternative to anything or anyone. Second the bible spells out clearly what repentance is (acts 20:21) and it is not turning from sin. It is turning to God. We are turning from rejecting God as being our Master, Lord.
Many people are willing to turn from sin to get God to accept them. That is not the problem. The problem is getting them to accept God as Lord over them or to say turn to God (repent). That is what lost men do not want. Our acceptance (repentance toward Him) of Him is not accepting that He is, or that He is God or turning from sin. Our acceptance (repentance toward Him) is us coming to the point, heart filled desire that we want to get right with Him and are ready to surrender our hearts and minds to Him as our Master.

Yes our sin is what brings this about, but it is not the turning from it that is the repentance. It is who we turn to not what we turn from. The repentance of sin is the result of salvatin not the avenue to it. We take that heart, that spirit of repentance toward God, and place it on Christ who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth and it becomes faith and we are saved by grace.

Great passages, praise the Lord.

No, you are miss-quoting me again. Like I said I understand ytour cofussion of the what God says if you read it like you read what I wrote. If yuo go back and read what i sais I statewd the bible does not say what you said. Read acts 20:21. That is what repentance is not what you are saying.

An accord.....Now....exegete.......

You mean change and/or add to scripture. No I choose to hold to what is written.
Acts 20:21
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

So back to the topic; repentance is turning to God, not turning from sin. Turning from sin does not mean the person is turning to God. Turning from sin is the result of salvation not the avenue to it. In fact it is not even possible to turn from sin prior to salvation even though many claim we must. It is difficult enough after salvation and impossible prior to.
