Republican hypocrites. What an absolutely pathetic bunch of people. A sorry excuse for what are supposed to be public servants.

Republicans Hail Parts of Bill That Few of Them Supported

By MICHAEL FALCONE

WASHINGTON — Republican lawmakers nearly unanimously resisted supporting the president’s $787 billion stimulus package, but what has proved irresistible is the temptation to take credit for at least a few of those billions.

Well, it's like you used you to say about Ron Paul ... You can fight against it, but if they are going to be passing it out, you might as well get in line.

I think what this shows is that you and LeBuick are wrong about the Republicans. They weren't opposed to all spending. They were opposed in principle to the idea and opposed to the size of it.

Of course you won't admit you were wrong. You don't have to though. We all know it.

I seem to recall Ron Paul being bashed by conservatives in this forum for such. I guess since these Republicans are popular in this forum it's okay with conservatives now.

And regardless of any inconsistency on Ron Paul's part, he never made blatant hypocrisy into the art form that these Republicans have.

Again PL, you are wrong because this is another clear example of how divided the republican party is.

While Representative John L. Mica of Florida issued news releases lauding the inclusion of $8 billion for high-speed rail projects around the nation.

The Republican Minority leader John A. Boehner of Ohio complained, "Tell me how spending $8 billion in this bill to have a high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is going to help the construction worker in my district,"

What it says to me is the Republican party is so divided they can't agree on what parts to oppose and what parts to support. They are running scared except all in different directions. I think they need to have a meeting so they can all get on the same page. What one calls waste another thinks was a "great inclusion" to the plan.

You got that right, they seem to be building up steam and getting better with every election. It's sad when no one reacts to their best weapon, the "victim card". The Republican congressional approval rating is about to pass Bush (going the wrong way).

The party is dividing like the country. If you are a conservative congressman from the south then you better oppose this bill or you're out. The conservative congressmen in the north are trying to explain their actions and point out parts of the bill they did support.

He was bashed for not being a man of principle. You aren't bashing the Republicans for that. You are bashing them for what you defended Ron Paul for doing. You seem to have no principles.

What's wrong with that? Why should everyone think alike? You want groupthink? When people opposed Bush and didn't agree with him, you applauded them for breaking ranks. Now you condemn them for doing it.

What it shows is that you don't have a clue. Take your $13/a week a buy one.

This stimulus bill was so huge and so far reaching it seems that it would be impossible for any thinking rational person to agree with everything in it or to disagree with everything in it.

Democrats loved the spending but resisted tax cuts.

Republicans wanted tax cuts but not necessarily the type that were included in the bill and hated the wasteful spending.

Democrats voted in favor of the bill because it's easy to raise taxes to offset the tax cuts that were in the bill.

Republicans voted against the bill because once the money is spent it is impossible to get it back and there will be more and more spending to come.

The GOP is in serious danger of becoming a southern-only, white-only political party.

Resisted tax cuts? The initial Democratic bill had hundreds of billions of dollars of tax cuts. Can some of the conservatives who opposed this jobs bill not even reason any longer????

Anyone who reads the NY times for fact would have to be soft in the head!

Do you have anything to disprove the facts in the story or are you just senselessly blathering like some conservatives have done ever since January 20, 2009?

I'm southern (unfortunately) and white, and I certainly don't support the republicans. But, I must admit it is nice to watch the Republican party disintegrate before our very eyes.

Republican Party = Whig Party????

It could happen. :applause:

That would make room for a political party of responsible adults to rise up and be the major competitor party with the other political party of responsible adults, the Democratic Party.

The New York Times is by FAR the best newspaper in the U.S. maybe the world. You're just showing your ignorance.

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, the Republican's didn't agree what "they", only thing they agreed on was opposing the Democrats then blaming then for non-partisanship. Some wanted 100% cuts. Some would accept a little spending while others would accept more spending but only in certain areas. Heck, 3 voted for the plan...

Nothing wrong with not thinking alike, you were wrong for this statement, "They weren't opposed to all spending. They were opposed in principle to the idea and opposed to the size of it."

As I pointed out, there was no inclusive "they" because "they" didn't agree on what "they" wanted. "They" still don't agree when one praises what another condemns. "They" are divided.

Wow...well, it's glad to see how edifying and uniting some are.

Good job on the self-indictment, fellas.

By the way...you do realize that the people whom you are making fun of represent 40% of our country...right? The unwarranted intimations of racism, elitism, and all the name-calling...you do realize that a huge chunk of our country votes for these folks...right? You do realize that the party you hold up as a paragon of all that is right, as part of its platform, recognizes the right to kill half-born babies...right?

Now...back to your name-calling. Sorry to have disturbed your acts of Christian love.
