Ex-Clinton Aide Charges Republicans 'Want to Kill Us'
By Jered Ede

(CNSNews.com) - Young liberals this week flocked to the nation's capital to hear, among other things, liberal television pundit and Democrat political strategist Paul Begala accuse Republicans of wanting to kill him and his children to preserve tax cuts for the rich.

SNIP

A panel discussion entitled "Winning the War of Ideas" centered on topics discussed in the book "What's the Matter with Kansas" by Thomas Frank and detailed the challenges that Democrats face in persuading voters in the American heartland and elsewhere to embrace their agenda and support their candidates.

Begala's presence on the panel created a stir when he declared that Republicans had "done a p***-poor job of defending" the U.S.

Republicans, he said, "want to kill us.

"I was driving past the Pentagon when that plane hit" on Sept. 11, 2001. "I had friends on that plane; this is deadly serious to me," Begala said.

"They want to kill me and my children if they can. But if they just kill me and not my children, they want my children to be comforted -- that while they didn't protect me because they cut my taxes, my children won't have to pay any money on the money they inherit," Begala said. "That is bulls*** national defense, and we should say that."

SNIP

"Okay, they are utterly and completely brain-dead," echoing comments earlier this year by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, who accused Republicans of being "brain dead."

SNIP

Former Clinton administration Chief of Staff John Podesta told the students that "you can fight hard for what you believe without breaking the law, without cheating and certainly without checking your morals at the door."

Do liberals have souls? Why do they talk that way with so much profanity and so many accusations? Liberals are more quixotic than Don Quixote himself--they could catch more flies if they used something other than vinegar. What happened to common courtesy?

Extreme comments get media attention. It happens on both sides. At some point, the media learned that reporting some extreme comment (comparing so-and-so to Hitler) improved their ratings because the public wanted it, being so full of emotion.

Politicians soon learned that the cameras were swinging their way when they made some outrageous remark. Following them were commentators, book writers, and film producers who found that there was a lot of money to be made from outrageous views, with facts or truth being irrelevant.

So, for example, Howard Dean, is what he is, because that is what we want him to be, because half of us love him and half of us hate him. He just gives us what we want. If we ignore the ranting, maybe our politicians will spend more time solving problems instead of blowing smoke.

A case where we get what we want and what we deserve.

The difference is that when liberals use extreme rhetoric, it's not a big deal.

However let a Republican... Stand back and watch the fireworks!

Case in point:

"Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Conservatives, he said, "saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."

"What happened to common courtesy?"

I think it disappeared with war mongering and racism...

Since liberals and the media made such a circus out of his remarks, I just assumed most people here would know who said it.

That remark is a really good iilustration of the disparity of the "public" outcry over liberal and conservative comments.

I thank God that He gave me the common sense to be a part of the vast right wing conspiracy!

As for Karl Rove, you know that your accusations are false, why are you still making them? Rove had as much to do with disclosing the identity of a covert operative as you or I did. It is time to put this to bed, it isn't sticking with the American people, it isn't going to force Rove out, and it makes the left look even worse than they already do.

I did not make any false accusations.

But I do remember seeing and hearing that very statement on tv. Was the tv playing tricks on me?

You "thank God that He gave you the common sense..."? Is that another way of saying liberalism is a Mental Disorder?

It went out the window when the relativists lost power.

When someone has a clear set of values, they see certain tactics as wrong regardless of whether it might benefit them or not.

Conservatives aren't perfect... but they are more inclined than US liberals to be guided by a set of immutable "rights and wrongs".

To a genuine conservative, it isn't right to out and out lie about an opponent. Certain levels of rhetoric (like Begala's) reach a point where it can only be called lying. He knows that conservatives don't want to kill him or his family. He also knows that Bush has made security every bit as much a budgetary priority as any Democrat would have. He just hates any notion of low taxes leading to more limited government power.

You may be right...but some conservatives ruin it for the rest of you. They have an irritating, holier than thou attitude and equate Christianity and patriotism with political parties. It isn't popular to do that in Canada and that is why ultra-conservatives never win elections...but moderates do.

It has been demonstrated conclusively that Wilson used his position and access in a partisan fashion.

He is a long time Democratic operative who acknowledged before a Senate committee that many of his most relevant and damaging remarks were not true. In fact, he acknowledged that his report on Niger served to bolster rather than diminish the idea that the Iraq-Niger connection deserved continued investigation.

In short, he lied in an attempt to help Democrats and the facts demonstrate this conclusively.

Who "outed" him and Plame is a relatively minor offense compared with the blatant acts of CIA operatives to use their offices in a partisan (and dishonest) political fashion.

Thanks for the informative post brother.

I think we would all be much better off and maybe be able to get along if we all realized that each side lies to get what they want. Money, power, more money and more power. Politicians (in general) do not care about the people...never have and never will.
