So, you are just super perfect and able to control your emotions when somebody slaps your wife in the face. I am glad that you have better control over yourself than I do. I am glad you never lose your cool and do things in the heat of emotion that you wish you hadn't. However, I don't know that would be true for me and that is why I think it wise instead of me trying to handle things from my obviously non-objective, emotional, irrational point of view, to instead call the police who have no emotional stake in the situation. I am glad you can say with confidence what you would do in such a situation. I, however, can't. And I don't, btw, think that therapy is needed. But thanks for your totally unsolicited advice which will now be completely ignored.

I will use necessary force to protect my family, and to end the threat of violence. When a person strikes another that constitutes battery and that is a crime which the police should be called in to deal with. We are talking in the hypothetical in regards to possible scenarios, and the use of personal slanders against another poster are wrong.

Gina I tend to get a bit heated when referencing predators violating the innocent, and I apologize if my post was judgemental. I do understand your overriding concern about retribution.

A call to the police would give them location and description and they could at least be on the look-out for the perps.

ShagNappy your personal comments about Joseph are not polite and not conducive to quality discussion. I appreciate Joseph's love of his precious ones, and I share his sentiments in regards to my own family. We must protect those who are vulnerable. We must curtail criminal actions, and get the criminal off the street.

This is the out of control mentality that has led to parents being arrested for spanking their children. What's led to elementary kids going to prison for a schoolyard scuffle. We are talking about 1 woman slapping another woman. We are not talking gang fighting in the street, the use of weapons, an attempt to permantly mar or kill another person. A womanly slap.

Let me ask you this. Your wife and her sister, if she has one, have an argument. It gets heated. Your SIL slaps your wife. Are you then going to call the police and have her arrested? She is now a criminal and MUST be removed from the street, correct? Would you do it? I suspect not, given she is a normal person. I would imagine when things cooled down you would want to sit down and discuss it and try to work things out. Why is that so different than with a neighbor or a friend?

I stand by what I said. It is disturbing to me that a grown, Christian, man feels he is in so little control of himself that he might very well murder a woman over a slap.

Gina, I see your point about making mountains out of mole hills. As a whole, we tend to blow out of proportion things that happen to us, while being able to see them as minor things when they happen to other people. We get upset if someone raises an eyebrow one millimeter too much and are prepared to defend to the death our right not to be inflicted with such indignities. If my wife were slapped by another woman I might have to call 911...to protect the other woman.

I think we, as Christians, should be able to endure a lot more wrong than most of us are willing to take. If someone were trying to break into my house I would definitely call 911 after all, someone has to remove the body.

Joseph, I also appreciate your honesty in trying to explain your strong desire to protect your family. People seem to be missing your point that you said your would call the police because you didn't trust your emotions to handle the situation.

Let the little things slide...most things are little things.

</font>[/QUOTE]Not having read the entire thread, the first thing that pops into my mind is the husband does have authority over his wife and he most certainly should be called if his wife is out of control. As head of his home, he further has the obligation to make sure things are set right.

I know many people do not follow Old Testament practices, but if I cause damage to a person or their belongings I am obligated to make it right. Also, before any governments where formed it was up to the men of God to handle things out of control. Do you remember where it says if a child is disobedient to bring him before the congregation and stone him.

It seems to me that we are quick to call man made officials and follow their laws, but when it comes to Biblical and church authority we rant and rave about them going to far, or how dare them and leave. How sad that we would follow after Ceasar but not after God's ways.
