It may sound like an inquistion, but don't you believe in the validity of laws based on moral codes such as found in the bible? If so, why not enforce them just as we enforce the present laws which are not based on the Bible. Everyone should get off the fence and not try to compromise with the world.

Dogwood, the above is what I would like you to explain. What is your position on witches and how does it differ from that of Mark Twain? Do you believe that we should prosecute witches in the present age and if not, why not? If you do believe that the law should prosecute witches, what should be the punishment? You seemed to be critical of Mark Twain for defending witches and I just wonder if he was actually doing that. Seems to me that he didn't believe witches exist. Do you?

Dogwood, very interesting about your previous career with a wiccan cult. By the way, the word I used in relation to witches, was "prosecute" rather than "Persecute", although in some sense there may not be so much difference between the two. I am undecided about the reality of witches. Does anyone else have an opinion? It seems that not many would want to return to the days of the witch trials in New Salem.

What's your beef about A. Lincoln? I think that anyone who does not consider him great must have rocks in their head.

All the more reason to mandate good behavior. We manddate good behavior in many other ways, such as observing the speed limit etc. Isn't it more important to curb pornograpy than to give someone a traffic ticket for going 10 miles over the speed limit? What exactly is the rationale for NOT enforcing biblical principles? In the old Testement, God was a demanding taskmaster. I am talking about only doing about a tenth of that.

The difference? Have you read your history books about the founding of America? I don't recall George Washingtion forcing all Americans to follow the same religion under penalty of death? Quite the opposite in fact! In fact, the death penalty has only been reserved for those who take another life! America was not founded on tyrany. Our women are protected under the law against rape and polygamy. In America, you can worship or not worship God however you wish.

Abraham Lincoln never professed to be a Christian and is a modern day mythology surrounding a man who never professed Christ, never was baptized, and belonged to no Church.

In modern times Lincoln would probably be put on trial for war crimes that he authorized Sherman and Sheridan to commit against the south.

There are those who practice animal sacrifices. Wise people keep their pets indoors when it gets around the last few days before Halloween. Some claim they are *good witches.* Haven't you heard? It's all been going on for years, though not well publicized and now there's a lot out there on the Internet if you care to browse...but turn off your cookies first so you don't get inundated with spam and junk mail by them after you look around. (not sure how effective that is anyway) I personally know where two covens practice out in the woods in Tennessee. (outside of Nashville) I know someone who worked with a professing warlock at one of the local chicken places. He was witnessed causing traffic lights to change while driving during numerous occasions and carried the satanic bible with him to work. Pretty creepy stuff...

Sounds like Slobodan Milosovic talking here. Do you have any idea what it's like being burned alive? You slowly roast from the outside in. Takes a long time for you to die, during the unbelievable agony of having the flames burn the flesh from your bones. The relatives of the condemned would sometimes bribe the officials to use wet wood so smoke would kill them more quickly. Why on Earth would you want to do that to any human?

What makes you think that you have any right to take some Wiccan and burn him to death? Do you understand that it's this kind of talk that makes people scared of voting for fundamentalists?

Lincoln and Jefferson were probably the closest thing to atheists in the White House, and the former was really a theist, and the latter a deist.

There might be a few atheists in public office, but very few who openly admit to be such.
