Debate about what?
I sense in you the dark side of the force... Preterism... preterist seeking affirmation by whipping up on uninformed futurists who tolerate being called dispies...
Correct?
Whether or not I am correct about your belief, Preterism taints one's theology in unexpected ways...
Challenging Church traditions is not a bad thing. We Protestants can attest to that. But challenging what the Bible teachings is something completely different. And we'd better be absolutely certain we are correct by the Holy Spirit who wrote the Bible (2 Peter 1:20-21), especially before we blow off prophetic warnings about the future by some form of human argumentation / reasoning.
The Bible warns we the future mankind is heading for the greatest chasm it has ever faced (the Great Tribulation).
Preterism says it's already happened, never mind the "bridge out" warning signs, full speed ahead!
And to make this theology work in any form (full or partial), one must spiritualize literal texts and take literally spiritualized texts based on human reason rather than holy writ.
It also has a dominion connection the Preterist may or may not even be aware of. That the Church, according to Dominion theology, will evangelize the whole Earth and Jesus' return will simply be to come take charge of his kingdom. A theology which was behind our failed attempt to evangelize the Jewish people in the 1990's.
It's going to take God the Great Tribulation to evangelize the Jews... which is the purpose for it, by the way. To surround the last of the last of their survivors with the whole world breathing down their necks (Armageddon). And as a last of the last resort (to them) they will cry out to Jesus since nothing else has worked. And he will come and devour the armies of the world according to Revelation and Zechariah.
They will cry out what we call hosanna (they call hosha nah! which means "save now" and is the meaning of part of Jesus' name Ye
hoshua).
Hosha Nah Y'hoshua, HaMoshiakh!
Save now, Jesus the Messiah!
Romans 11:26 (AV)
26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Preterism pooh poohs this entirely and is in fact antisemitic relegating the Jewish people to being forsaken of God never to be sought by him again. Replaced by the Gentile born Church. Rather than the Gentiles in the Church being grafted into their Spiritual tree.
Romans 11:16–28 (AV)
16For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
And...
Jeremiah 31:31–37 (AV)
31Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
35Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
36If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
37Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
