I know some versions translate arxe as "ruler" in that Christ is the ruler of the creation of God but I believe it ought to be kept as "the beginning of the creation of God". The Jehovah's Witnesses misinterpret this and insist that Christ was the first of God's creation. However the title "faithful witness" is used to describe Christ in Revelation 1:5 where it speaks of Him being "the first-born of the dead". So the expression "the Beginning of the creation of God" is talking about Christ being the first to rise from the dead never to die again (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:20).
