I beg to differ. That poster has posted only 5 or so times in this thread. Most of the 14+ pages of comments have not been directed at the poster in question at all, but to others.

I could be making the mistake of in my mind lumping in post on this thread and the legalism thread, which seemed to intertwine at many points and were in essence the same argument from many of the same posters. But since that was was closed I posted my overall views here.

I don't think anyone has any problem with the statement you quoted earlier. Dress is and should be a personal issue and not a corporate edict in the church.

Our church is a 'come as you are' church. We have some folks who dress up and some folks who dress down. Some don't dress as nice as I would like but I am learning to focus more on the heart and on the Lord.

Going and living in the mission field like sister Spinach and her family would convince many of the ridiculousness of some of our so closely held Western prejudices regarding "God's House" and reverence for it. When you get out of your culture comfort you learn that a lot of things that were so necessary 'back home' really count for nothing in reality.

I want to publicly apologize to dcorbett for my attitude. There were times I posted in anger, and should not have done so. It started in the Super-bowl thread and spilt over into the other 2 threads. I felt that she was judging those of us that have had superbowl parties in the past. But even if she was I should not have reacted the way I did. I judged what was in her heart and mind.

I crossed the line from debate to making it personal.

And for that I am sorry dcorbett.

It takes a big man to make a post as yours. I admire you for doing so.

Hahaha! Is everyone else envisioning a pot calling the kettle black here?? That's the funniest use of hypocrisy I've ever heard on this board!!
Hi John, do you think that the way you replied makes you look any better?

You have been quick to reply and in haste, yet nothing of worth, but further to ridicule.

My statement was a plea, yours is just another attack.

You seem to think there should be no difference in the lost world and its system and that of the church. Your ridiculing others shows a complete lack in setting any difference, even though God commands there to be a difference.

I have found Jesus to be the only one qualified to call anyone a hypocrite. Thanks for your holier than thou remarks.

when you say you reverence God by dressing up, you make an automatic judgement against those who can not dress up, that they automatically in your preception are not revenrencing God.
Not exactly, Donna, all it means is she makes use of her means to reverence God in that way.

I gaurentee you that most of what you refer as not being able to dress up have cell phones, cable tv, a widescreen hdtv and some fairly expensive clothes.

We thriftstore shop alot and when we dio buy new clothes it is at some place like Freds or Value City. Most of the clothes in these places are seconds but they are top quality seconds at greatly reduced prices.

If anyone wants to honor God by wearing their best, who are you to so quickly condemn them and accuse them of the behavior you have?
Get over it, I've been called a liar here, my family attacked, once I was called a lesbian by a legalist because my hair didn't drag the ground, grow up and stop whining.
That was just flat out rude and totally uncalled for.
I did not personally attack you, but you've been slinging more then a few personal attacks on these two threads. You just can't stand people who aren't legalists, who believe in the grace of God, and not opinions of men, seeking to satisfy the eyes of men instead, ignoring the heart.
I counted no less than 5 atacks against her in this post alone.

Truly this is very sad.

What do I have to do, train you in the Scriptures?

Lev 20:3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.
Lev 21:6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, [and] the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
Lev 21:7 They shall not take a wife [that is] a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he [is] holy unto his God.
Lev 22:2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name [in those things] which they hallow unto me: I [am] the LORD.
Lev 22:15 And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD;
Lev 22:32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I [am] the LORD which hallow you,
Eze 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed [difference] between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
Eze 44:23 And they shall teach my people [the difference] between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
Amo 2:7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the [same] maid, to profane my holy name:

I know, I know, this is O.T., but the same sanctuary is spoken of.

Go on and deny these all you wish.

Interesting question. The day of my son's last parent teacher conference, I was dressed in gym attire (black workout shorts, a spandex workout shirt, and sneakers socks) because I had just come from the gym. In fact, when setting up the conference, I asked the teacher if that would be okay, and she said "of course, no problem". There was nothing immodest, immoral, or unscriptural about my attire whatsoever.
I'd thrown you out and told you until you showed more respect towards some one trying to educate your son he would benefit little because his daddy has a bad attitude.

No wonder so many teachers have cowled down in the last few years, they have to deal with volatile parentas all the time just so they can maintain their hope in reaching today's children.

All you've done is prove that this world is getting farther and farther away from Christian duty and integrity.

Go ahead and be just like the world, the devil expects you to.

Oh, please, you're guilty of hypocrisy, and I called you on it: You are here bashing people over the head, and then complaing about others being quick to bash somebody over the head. That's hypocrisy by definition.
I have found Jesus to be the only one qualified to call anyone a hypocrite.
Which does not excuse you being one.
Gross misapplication of the Scripture. Try again.
Indeed. Levticus 20 was admonishing the people living in Israelite territory (whether Israelite or not) for offering their children as human sacrifices to Molech. It has nothing to do with customs in a church building.
I'd thrown you out and told you until you showed more respect towards some one trying to educate your son he would benefit little because his daddy has a bad attitude.
Wow, and you're cpable of engaging in self-righteousness, too: assuming a "bad attidude" where there is none. Especially when I asked ahead of time if she was okay with me being dressed in gym attire, since I was coming directly from the gym, and she said "sure, no problem". Thankfully, you're not in the position of educationg children. But you can't do that until you graduate from college, and you can't do that until you are done with high school.
All you've done is prove that this world is getting farther and farther away from Christian duty and integrity.
Really? Show me where in scripture Christian duty" is defined as "dressing up" for a parent teacher conference.
Go ahead and be just like the world, the devil expects you to.
You've already made a hypocritical post, and a self-rightous one. Are you sure you want to add a pharisaical post on top of that?

Not as you'd hope.

What was profane then is profane now. God still commands that there be a difference. You'd love to change that for God wouldn't you.

Show me Scripture that allows you to behave and dress anyway you wish in any atmosphere you wish and when you feel like doing what you want to do in any place you wish.

I didn't say being saved. But if your attitude about people's clothing is turning them away from church attendence, then your attitude about clothes is wrong and is not reverencing God.
My attitude that we would maintain order within the sanctuary as to have a worship service drove some away.

They wanted to turn it into a social
meeting place to hook-up with all their friends and speak out against preaching Christ and him crucified. When they saw I wasn't going to let them over run the sanctuary they got real mad, cussed me out and stormed out the door.

Abraham drove away the vultures. I simply maintained they weren't going to dictate to this pastor on how the service would run. God entrusted me to pastor these people, not let those who hate God and everything about God take over. I'm just gaurding my filed of peas.

You have proven to be so much better than me.

Provide the post where I called anyone a name? Is it your calling to always try and provoke your brethren to wrath?

If it is, and it is, then God didn't call you. You are doing nothing to build up the brethren. Your remarks do nothing but tear down. You speak evil of dignities.

You're putting words in my mouth- I have never said, "Scripture allows you to behave and dress anyway you wish in any atmosphere you wish and when you feel like doing what you want to do in any place you wish."

For someone who speaks of "respect" you seem to lack it as evidenced by the part I snipped.

Please show me from those Scriptures you posted above how wearing jeans to church is profane, or how wearing a suit and tie is commanded. You can't.

Indeed, but what I see happenning is that a few who practice "dressing up" are accusing those who do not do likewise doing the same in their church of being disrespectful to "God's house". That sort of attitude needs to be addressed and admonished.
Show me where I said that?

I said I dress up in my best. I have only two suits. I preach to people of all income levels and of classes along with a few different nationalities.

I know you refer to me but you only want to condemn what you don't understand. You're making it all up because no one here has said anything like you say they did.

Devils present half-truths and speak evil of dignities.

It's all a matter of respect.

You dress like you want to and the same way you would when you go to sports events or camping.

Sports events have most of the attenders so caught up in creature worship and you see no difference in that being profane and that God and his place of worship shouldn't be abny different.

I respect the Scriptures that show me I should be different in a world of compromise
, you do not. It's all a matter of respect.
