I guess you didn't see the same Narnia I did.

Allegory is a form of extended metaphor, in which objects, persons, and actions in a narrative, are equated with the meanings that lie outside the narrative itself. The underlying meaning has moral, social, religious, or political significance, and characters are often personifications of abstract ideas as charity, greed, or envy. Thus an allegory is a story with two meanings, a literal meaning and a symbolic meaning.

Brother Ian, didn't you think it was just about 45 minutes to long?

I nearly dozed off during beginning. I could've lived without all the who came from where and why business.

Does anyone else use this book:
www.grouppublishing.com/FaithWeaver/prodinfo.asp?prodid=2200

It is "Movie Clips for Kids"
I use it some for some current illustrations.
For instance the movie, "Nemo" can be used to illustate God's love for us and the distance He went to show His love by comparing to Nemo's dad.
You know the part where the seagull is telling Nemo what all his dad went through to get to Nemo.

I know some of you will say "Evil" But I for one think we need to do better at relating the gospel to others. Use what we have.
You should have seen the kids "lights go on" when I explained it to them in Jr. Church. They even started picking out things that could be used as illustrations. Such as children listening to parents, and that bad things will happen if they don't. I for one think Christians should be able to see Christ in everyday situations, and not pigeonhole Christianity to Bible study, and Church services.

That is what is wrong with America. We have seperated religion from life. We say some things are religious, and some are secular. Isn't Christianity supposed to be a lifestyle not just events connected to a lifestyle.

When christ saved me my life began, not just part-time, but full-time.

Jesus quoted scripture all the time. </font>
Not so.. Everything Jesus said is not written down. Therefore, it cannot be Scripture.
Now everything Jesus said was God-breathed.

He used parables to fulfill prophecy . . . and so that the general public at that time would *not* understand. Jesus also used everyday common events and people for comparisons in His parables - not magic, mythology, and witchcraft.

Matt 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speak you unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that he has.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing all of you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing all of you shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. 17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which all of you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which all of you hear, and have not heard them.

</font>
everything that God wanted us to know that Jesus said *is* written down and is therefore scripture - unless you are saying that the four gospels are not inspired? not scripture?

There were some parts that I think could have been shortened. I don't want to give away which parts, but if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.

I was really surprised by how long it was. The where and why really sets up the story line that lacks from many movies these days.

Again, a good show.

That's no the issue at hand. The issue at hand is a buch of of Christian vigilantes taking it upon themselves to decide what is and is not appropriate viewing for the whole. That's unrighteous behavior at its finest.

Funny! In church yesterday----we stayed there a total of 5 hours----two hours in the morning and 3 in the evening----and not one time in those 5 hours was Narnia mentioned---not the first single frame or line!! Not the first mention of Kong---not one single frame or word from the movie was uttered from the pulpit---not even in the announcement time before worship and praise begins!

I've made it this far without "Passion" and "Narnia" and "Kong"----I believe I can make it "the rest of the way" without any Hollywood help of those sorts!!

More unighteous commetents from a pharisaical heart. You've decided that any Christian that goes to see Narnia is worldly. The fact that you cannot see your own unrighteousness is of concern.

I don't believe thats the issue here, Johnv---nobody says we CAN'T go see the movie---but for goodness sake---don't take a thing of the world and try to "bend somethin' spiritual" out of it!!

I sincerely agree with you, blackbird. I have no problem with Narnia or any move having spiritual, moral, or scripturally parallel content. I only have a problem when such a movie is being help up to the level of scripture. Those in Boanerges' camp have decided that Christians who see the movie are doing so, not to mention, being worldly.

I object to such unrighteous accusations.

By that estimation, JohnV, then Budism, Islam, Hinduism, and any other religion that pits good against evil with good as the victor is also "good".
