Don't know that much about him yet, but been hoping for an alternative to Gingrich, Romney, and Paul. Seems to have some underdog potential. Whadaya think?

My disagreements with Rick are [..] his inability to run a national campaign.
Can you elaborate? Are you saying he is incompetent to run a national campaign or that he doesn't have the money?
Q: If you believe that life begins at conception, then why do you support exceptions for rape, incest, and life of mother?
SANTORUM: Yeah, I would vote for things like that.
Q: But it’s the taking of a life.
SANTORUM: The Hyde Amendment allows rape, incest, life of the mother. That is the common ground we could get, and I would support that.
Q: But by your standards, it’s the taking of a life.
SANTORUM: It is, there’s no question it’s the taking of a life. But it is an attempt for me to try to see if we can find common ground to actually make progress in limiting the other abortions. So yes, that’s what I would do.
Q: Should we outlaw homosexuality?
A: I have no problem with homosexuality. I have a problem with homosexual acts. As I would with other acts outside of traditional heterosexual relationships. And that includes a variety of different acts, not just homosexual. I have absolutely nothing against anyone who's homosexual. If that's their orientation, then I accept that. The question is, do you act upon that orientation? So it's not the person, it's the person's actions..
Voted NO on banning affirmative action hiring with federal funds.
I have been working with Democratic Senator Jon Corzine on an idea titled the America Saving for Personal Investment, Retirement, and Education Act (the "ASPIRE" Act). It creates savings account called a Kids Investment and Development Savings (KIDS) account for every child born in America. Under this plan, the federal government would endow each account with a one-time $500 contribution. Every child living in households earning below the national median income would be eligible for an additional contribution of up to $500
Voted YES on funding for National Endowment for the Arts.
Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act.
Voted YES on extending the PATRIOT Act's wiretap provision.
Q: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had this editorial: “Five Santorum children have been home-schooled, paid for by the Penn Hills district to the tune of $38,000 a year, until it became apparent that they don’t live in Penn Hills. [The newspaper] sent a letter to Santorum at his home address, at least the one that he claims. Back came the letter with a sticker from the US Postal Service [as undeliverable].” In 1990 you ran this commercial repeatedly:
There’s something strange about this house It belongs to our congressman, Doug Walgren. What’s so strange? Instead of living in his own congressional district, Congressman Walgren lives in this house, located in the wealthiest area of Virginia.
Q: Isn’t that rather hypocritical of you?
SANTORUM: No, not at all. My opponent never owned a home in the district, ever, in 14 years. I own a home and always owned a home.
Q: How many nights have you personally spent there?
SANTORUM: I probably spend maybe a month a year.
$90M to study effects of media violence on kids.
Voted YES on restoring $550M in funding for Amtrak for 2007.

Even in his home state of PA, he does not poll well and seems to not have a strong base of support in that state.
He doesn't?
Here's the result of an August 2nd poll conducted in Pennsylvania:
Pennsylvania voters say 52 - 42 percent that Obama does not deserve to be reelected. Matching the president against possible Republican challengers shows:
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 44 percent to Obama's 42 percent;
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum with 43 percent to Obama's 45 percent;
Obama leads Minnesota U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann 47 - 39 percent;
Obama tops Texas Gov. Rick Perry 45 - 39 percent.
Romney tops a possible Republican presidential primary field with 21 percent, unchanged from June 15. Other results are:
Santorum with 14 percent, compared to 16 percent June 15;
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 12 percent, compared to 11 percent;
Bachmann with 11 percent, up from 5 percent;
Perry with 8 percent. He was not included June 15.
In that same poll, when pitting Obama against Santorum, Obama got 45% of the independent vote; Santorum got 38%. Also he picked up 5 points vs. Obama from a June poll to the August poll.
TREND: If the 2012 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were Barack Obama the Democrat and Rick Santorum the Republican for whom would you vote?

I like the guy
Exactly right, he is being beat by Obama in a state that he was elected to serve as Senator. Romney, who never ran for statewide office is out polling him in PA.
Iowa GOP poll shows Romney leading but threatened by Santorum surge
Mitt Romney leads in a key poll of GOP presidential hopefuls in Iowa, with Ron Paul and Rick Santorum close behind
The poll showed Mitt Romney on top with 24%, Ron Paul on 22%, Rick Santorum on 15%, Newt Gingrich on 12%, Rick Perry on 11% and Michele Bachmann on 7%.
But a breakdown of the poll revealed that over the last two days of the survey Santorum enjoyed a significant late surge in support. The portion of the poll covering just the last two days left Romney at the top with 24% but had Santorum leap-frogging Paul to take second place on 21%, leaving Paul in third on 18%.
I'm now thinking Santorum is going to overtake Paul in Iowa and seriously be on Romney's heels, if not beat him.
Personally I like Santorum. I hope he beats the socks off Ron Paul. I can't believe how many people RP and his loud supporters have convinced that he is a conservative.
