Rick Warren Promotes Harry Potter

I have no interest in Harry Potter. I find the plots very boring and predictable. My kids like the books. I don't mind that they read them. They know that God considers witchcraft to be abominable, and they aren't the least bit interested in real witchcraft just because they read the books. I would not recommend the books to anyone, and I question why RW would recommend them. But I wouldn't tell anyone to avoid the books unless they were already predisposed to getting involved in the occult or something.

Your reasoning seems a little flawed. You would let your kids read them but not recommend them to anyone else and would question why someone else would recommend them?

All people are predisposed to sin, removing as many outlets to as many avenues is choice.

And on your last sentence, some people are not predisposed to adultery, specifically as defined by Christ in reference to looking. Would you then not tell anyone to avoid porn unless they were already predisposed to getting involved in adultery or something? Place drugs or whatever else in place of porn if it helps.

I am saying the man is not caring nor compassionate, I believe Rick Warren might have at one time had good intentions, but I think he is too busy bringing the world religions together to build up churches and the attendance to really be too concerned about souls.

RW is concerned about attendance, you can find all of that on his website, he isn't concerned with Jesus Christ and leading the lost to the Lord, he is concerned about church growth. Point blank that is it. It doesn't shock me that he word support a book inspired by a woman possessed by demons, does not shock me in the least.

If he openly oposes something he will lose members in his congregation (see Joel Olsteen) so instead of calling sin, sin, he side steps, brushes it off, not to offend, but to keep the members pleased and pouring in. See, if he doesn't lead his flock the way God intends for a true shepherd to lead, then he is no shepherd at all, he is simply misleading the masses and will be answer for every soul that stumbles.

I don't doubt the salvation of your relative. I don't think it was RW's preaching that lead her to Christ, I think it was the drawing of the Holy Spirit calling her to Christ. RW just asked her to come to church.

I know that God used Saddleback, Rick Warren, and her neighbor in California...and that thanks to that, she is a believer. If you and others wish to disagree with RW's approach, fine. Have at it. Lot's of ministries devoted to "spotting false teachers" are too often concerned with throwing mud than contirbuting to the actual Kingdom of God.

Since we're on the "record" (not that this means anything) I enjoy the Harry Potter books and how they've opened doors to talk with people about things of faith. The movies are good too. I grew up with the Smurfs, HeMan, etc and turned out fine.

I'd be more interested in hearing what other people thought about the rest of the books on the list. This is a really sad thread, but it is what I've come to expect of this place.

I would like to add though, that I was saved while at a Christian Church where they believe you have to be baptized (or buptized as they like to pronounce it) to be saved. I didn't adhere to that last part and was trully saved. You can be in a bad church and still get saved.

I have several copies of a CD Rick Warren made (along with some Christian musicians) that contains a clear presentation of the gospel with Christian music to accompany it. I bought a pack of 20 for $20. They are being offered essentially at cost because they are intended to get the gospel to people who may not otherwise hear it.

Rick Warren cares about souls.

You've just questioned his salvation.

You've just said some incredibly ugly, untrue, and hateful things about my cousin's pastor...the man who led her to Christ.

You should apologize. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." You obviously hate RW with an intense hatred. And thus, you are willing to lie, gossip, and slander...with no proof and no regard as to the sinfulness of your speech.

I am respectfully asking you to apologize for your hateful and untrue comments.

And if you can't, then at least quit slandering the pastor that has led others to the Lord.

He's made the whole world his church. When I was church seeking, in my area, it was a rare church that wasn't purpose driven. If he was a local pastor that affected only local issues big wup, but he's gone global and he affects far more than the residents of Saddleback Valley.

Maybe you misread, I said "should I". I didn't use those terms, Christ did. I just used them as an example of how Christ did indeed call men out.

Not sure about the church, i was referencing the one I was at. It was general statement that slavation that happens because of a church does not mean the church is a good church necessarily, and vice versa. Clear as mud?

A church that ignores these purposes, ignores the book of Acts...

Churches have been teaching these before RW hit the scene!
