Technological displacement is a mind-boggling concept. When I was a boy, we had "milkmen" "paperboys" and "telephone booths." My grandfather did not like the technological advance of building and remodeling homes with natural gas piping, because that made us "dependent" upon the gas suppliers. He preferred making sure his coal bin was full before winter.
The key insight needed by leadership is to provide the new job and training so a person can step up rather than step down into the unskilled labor market.
