Role of a Pastor.

God held those attributes long before Jesus was sacrificed for our sins. He was that way in the OT as well. I have salvation because of Jesus alone.

 

We, as Christians, as merely vessels of God's mercy. It is not about me, but about the God who is working through me.

Salvation is secured in Jesus not God's character.

 

Absolutely. However many today seem to negate that aspect of the Christian life and shirk their responsibiility to the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit has given the job of overseer and making disciples to believers. We have a responsibility and so does God. God is faithful and it is up to use to do what pleases him not what others tell us that pleases Him.

 

Jesus is God. They are not at odds in their character. There is no reason to make a distinction between their characters.

I think there is a fine line in that God is not Jesus. Jesus died that we might be saved. God did not die that we might be saved.

Nobody is saved on the basis of God's character, but rather on Jesus alone. They are saved by God's plan of redemption--Jesus.

 

I've never had a visit once from any Pastor in 27 years of adult church membership. I did at one time get regularly "summoned" to go and see the vicar when I had done something he didn't like, that was when I was an Anglican. As far as Baptist churches go - one phone call once from a Pastor to tell me that he had had complaints because I smelled of animals when I came to church (I lived on a smallholding at the time - I and was mortified!) and that's it. That's in six years of being a Baptist. So no, I don't expect visits.

Though strangely enough, as a teenager I went to a local Baptist church just two or three times, and when I stopped going the Pastor came round to see me - I was out so he ended up talking to my parents I was rather impressed when I heard about it.
