Regarding the mandated laws on illegal immigrants and anchor babies. Should the church, per the Bible, practice prudence or exhibit unconditional charity?

Please provide scripture to back up your views. Thanks! :flower:

The Catholic Church, since it considers itself God's Kingdom on the earth, doesn't recognize borders since the whole world belongs to the Kingdom and migration is a normal process. With this one-world global view they consider it their ministry to help people or at least point them to government agencies that will accomplish this (ie: welfare state).

That is a good point. Thanks!

Border laws are not laws that violate the commands of Christ, so we don't have the liberty to disobey them.

The proper response would be to send the border criminal back to his home country, and for the church to sponsor him there while he applies to come here legally.

Yall got issues. Always looking for ways to Scripturally justify being mean-spirited and selfish.

A lot of you on here just as in the GOP have an issue with "illegal immigrants". So stop trying to pretend like finding a verse in Scripture is gonna justify the nastiness.

I'm curious...
would it make a difference if the illegal immigrant were a believer ?
If not, can this legitimately be an issue of faith?

Here's part of what im getting at...

Are we obligated to make sure that unbelievers obey government regulations? Or are we only to be concerned with the Body of Christ?

I would think a born again believer would not want to trash their witness by breaking laws of another country, therefore, they'd get in line and apply to be a legal citizen by way of immigration codes.

Great point.

If you want to play the name calling game go ahead. I do not see a valid response in your fluff response. And doubt you would ever provide one

It's not the responsibility of the American taxpayer to pay for the care and feeding of illegal aliens (mostly Central American),
no matter how much the U.S. Catholic church might want this or like this.

Unless they are posing a danger to someone else, I don't think the church should play cop with regards to any crime someone is committing (not talking about someone vandalizing or breaking into the church itself, etc). The church should treat them just as they would any other church member that is practicing open, unrepentant sin. They should counsel them to repent and if that doesn't happen then they should break fellowship with them.

He asked about the CHURCH, not the American taxpayer.

How Christians treat their neighbors always has been and always will be an issue of faith.

Mandated government laws should not change that as Christ and obedience to Him is to remain first.

This thread is nothing but the OPs round about way of saying that he doesn't think we should be taking care of illegals because they are breaking the law of the authority.

Just another way to Pharasitically justify meanness.

They are here. And since they are here, the church should treat them as neighbors and treat them the way that Christ has commanded.

My apologies if I'm not understanding what he's talking about with practicing prudence and unconditional charity?

What exactly is there for the church to be prudent about? And why wouldn't the church practice unconditional charity with them?

So do you do that for rapists who are here? for murderers who are here? Do you treat them as neighbors? Do you let them babysit for your children? They broke the law, sure, but you don't want to be a Pharisee and be mean, do you?

We can still care of illegals, see to their immediate needs and help them obey the law by sending them back. We are under no biblical obligation to allow them to come here to live off of the tax payers.

Yep. Why wouldn't I treat someone as a neighbor just because they've committed a crime?

Do you let them babysit for your children?

I don't babysit my neighbors children so why would I let them babysit mine?

They broke the law, sure, but you don't want to be a Pharisee and be mean, do you?

You might be trying to make a point, and just not doing a good job of doing so. But I'm not letting my neighbors baby sit my kids because it's not the neighbors responsibility to baby sit my kids.

It IS my responsibility as a follower of Jesus Christ to treat my neighbors with the love of Christ.

Yep What I mean is that that the Church has no role on illegal immigrants. It has a role on loving people, and on being the Body of Christ, and on sharing the gospel, and on equipping the saints regardless of their immigration status.

Luke 6:31 records Jesus saying, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Matther 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
