Keeping an open mind is an excellent idea. I really see the GOP nomination being a three way race between Mitt, Guiliani, and McCain. Clearly, Guiliani and McCain are not conservatives. Therefore, it is up to Mitt to prove his conservative bonafides. If he does so and conservatives fail to rally to his candidacy, then they will have only themselves to blame when they don't like who takes office on January 20, 2009.

I completely respect your opinion on this. I have not made up my mind about Romney. Thankfully the election is still far off. America is great!

    McCain's Michigan Nightmare: Romney

"John McCain played the spoiler in 2000, upending frontrunner George W. Bush in the February Michigan primary and momentarily casting doubt on Bush's party coronation.

As 2008 looms, McCain is the frontrunner - and, ironically, Michigan could prove his undoing."

I am definitely skeptical of the other two candidates you mention. I sometimes admire McCain's willingness to take unpopular stands, but he seems to have a wicked temper which will not serve him well as president. Guiliani (not likely that I spelled that correctly) is liberal on social issues, however, if he pledges to nominate judges who hold to "original intent" he may be an acceptable alternative to democrats. Honestly, I have never heard Romney give a speech or interact in an interview, so my familiarity with his is limited. Keeping my ears open....

    Thanks KenH,
I am off work on Wednesdays and usually stay with my little boy for several hours to give my wife some time to escape. I'll check this speech out.

This is what Romney believes in! If he can believe this fairytale then what else or who else might he believe in or trust in in the future?............

..............The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God’s dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel.

The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation. Their words, written on gold plates, were quoted and abridged by a prophet-historian named Mormon. The record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 B.C., and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babel. This group is known as the Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the American Indians.

The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come.

After Mormon completed his writings, he delivered the account to his son Moroni, who added a few words of his own and hid up the plates in the hill Cumorah. On September 21, 1823, the same Moroni, then a glorified, resurrected being, appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and instructed him relative to the ancient record and its destined translation into the English language.

In due course the plates were delivered to Joseph Smith, who translated them by the gift and power of God. The record is now published in many languages as a new and additional witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God and that all who will come unto him and obey the laws and ordinances of his gospel may be saved.

Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”

We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is his revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the second coming of the Messiah................

I have personally read the book of Mormon and find it's contradictions to Holy Scripture appalling. It is not any "bible companion" by any stretch of the imagination. You can see the falseness exposed in reading the introduction alone.

Romney has yoked himself with a false prophet and this alone will be his demise politically. You will find that once this exposer hits mainstream born again Christians Romney will plumit in the polls. Most Christians will be speaking out against him as becoming a President of the USA. Right now most people haven't even heard of him or have even been paying any attention this early in the game.

    God Bless!

We will electing a president in 2008, not a pastor. The qualifications are not the same for those two offices.

I don't know of anyone on this board who is a Mormon; therefore, one is preaching to the choir about the wrong theology of Mormonism.

Preach it, Steaver! Romney worships Joe Smith. That's enough for me to shake the dust off MY feet.

 <---I'll do this before I'll vote for Romney.

While this may be true, don't you think we should at least look for a President that has similar qualifications as a Pastor?

As Christians, wouldn't it be in our best interest to vote in a person that is "pastor like" in qualifications, even if we not "required" too?

I know we can't or won't find the "perfect" person for President, but I do think we shouldn't "settle" for someone's values, when his religion is totally out of line in my opinion.

That statement is uncalled for, mean spirited, and wrong.

I have to admit, frankly, the fact that we are having this discussion over whether a person other than someone with some evangelical Christian "seal of approval" about his religious beliefs should be president - or even voted for for president - in the United States in the 21st century is a rotten
    shame. :tear:

No. The government is not the church and the church is not the government.

From Article VI of the United States constitution:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

Then I am sorry to say I totaly disagree. I thnk in part, that is why our poltical system, on both sides, are in as bad of shape as they are now.

As Christian, we should expect more from our leaders, be it a Pastor or a Politician. We "settle" for almost good enough, and have done so for so long, that the corruption in Washington is unreal!

Personally, I have never settled for almost good enough when I vote and I don't plan on starting.

Also, I have no desire to see a theocracy in the United States - even of my own religion. I see how that works in Iran with Islam and I don't want to see it here with Christianity.

I never said it should be REQUIRED. Go back and read my posts, I even said we should do it as Christians, even if we weren't required too.

Doing it because I am required to, and doing because in my heart, I feel it the right thing to do, is two different things.

I am sorry, I can't vote for a Mormon, any more than I could vote for an atheist or a satanist.

Then don't. I'm not trying to persuade anyone with his mind already made up.

But I enjoy a good debate with anyone - even those who won't budge an inch.

'Some Christian conservatives have watched Romney's passionate opposition to gay marriage in Massachusetts and concluded he may be the one electable candidate who shares their principles in public and private life. "In terms of values," says Mark DeMoss, a Christian media strategist who has helped Romney reach out to evangelicals, "I have more in common with most Mormons than I do with a liberal Southern Baptist."'...

"Romney's greatest challenge, though, remains proving himself a true believer on social issues. Some conservatives have expressed serious concerns about a 1994 letter Romney wrote to gay-rights activists vowing to make "equality for gay and lesbians a mainstream concern." Romney says that "equality" had nothing to do with marriage back then. "Even the members of the Log Cabin Republican club said, 'Oh, you don't have to be in favor of gay marriage'." Since then, he says, "the media and the elite and the Democratic Party have moved to very much favoring same-sex marriage," he says. "I haven't moved to the right, they've moved to the left." On abortion, he is now pro-life, because he says he's become convinced that "the Roe v. Wade philosophy has so cheapened human life." He sounds like a Baptist, or at least the kind of Baptist Republicans elect."

Romney might have a little more to overcome other than the fact that he is a Morman.
