What is the purpose of starting a thread that demeans the last decent President this nation has elected? Look at the string of clowns that have served in the office since. I do not think President Reagan has one thing to do with the 1973 Supreme Court decision making abortion legal. While President, Reagan's heart was to preserve life, and he had a Democrat Congress to deal with almost eight years.
Now, neither party has a stellar record when it comes to abortion. That is a fact. However, there is a difference. There is a difference between taking a sin that is a stench in the eyes of the Lord, and not only legalizing it, but promoting it, advertising it, and turning it from a shameful act we used to hide, to something to be proud of. This is the modern Democrat Party, and they have taken this sin and rubbed God's nose in it, after He has blessed this country like He has. On the other hand, and here is the difference, Republicans have never had the goal of eliminating the practice on both the state and federal level, as the political power and will is not there, but they have not promoted it, and have won several legal victories at the state and federal level to limit it or set the movement back. Not that God approves of either, but there is a difference.
What do all of you think Reagan could have done different, given that abortion is the law of the land, and that the Democrats controlled Congress? Reagan appointed several Supreme Court justices that slowed down the progression of the movement. Bush the Second also made two outstanding Supreme Court nominees that helped, Roberts and Alito.
We went through this last year, it sounds like a broken record with Romney. Yes, Romney signed bills that were pro abortion as governor. As the Presidential candidate, he clearly stated he had changed his mind. So, what is a Christian to do, believe Romney, where there was a chance of opposition, or vote for Obama, who you knew would take abortion and gay marriage to new heights?
I have never understood why digging up past Republican records justifies Democrats killing innocent babies today.
Say what you want about Reagan, he provided the leadership, inspiration, and direction this nation needed after the four year Chinese fire drill Carter ran. The biggest mistake Reagan made was picking Bush as VP, which started a whole string of poor to average Presidents.
All we can do is work within the Republican Party to demand an end of the practice. There is no other route. The Democrats are not going to change, and third parties at this point in time are worthless.
Actually, this thread is a disgrace.
