ROTC vs West Point

Read something today - that I thought was interesting!

When a West Point Cadet graduates - he is promoted to 2 LT and immediately goes on active duty.
When a ROTC cadet graduates - he is put on inactive duty for about 30 days (aka leave) with instructions to report to his first duty station.

This way - a West Point Cadet will have 30 days TIG over a ROTC cadet.

I wonder what the chances are of a ROTC graduate attaining the rank of "Bird" Colonel, in comparison to the West Point graduate? I'm guessing Zero!

Having witnessed both in my family, there is no comparison in training. West Point has active military training from day one. ROTC…….summer camp. Cadets are totally prepared to fit in to the military structure, & have gone through hell & back by the time they graduate. There is no level of sameness to compare except that both will pay back uncle sam by serving. The family member who became an officer through ROTC was completely disrespected, & got his comeuppance into the military world by those he served with. On the job training, as they say. Too late though, he didn’t accept reality after being told he was a ‘superior’ by being an officer. He always believed he was entitled after that. Hopefully he was a worse case scenario. I’m not telling this story to trash ROTC.
