Round 2: House passes government funding bill, proposes one year ACA delay

House Republicans voted early Sunday morning in favor of a temporary spending bill that includes a one-year delay for ObamaCare, a move that increases the chance of a government shutdown with Senate Democrats and the White House vowing to reject the measure ahead of a Monday night deadline.

The Republican-led House passed the proposal 231-192 in one of two amendments attached to a Senate spending bill passed Friday night.

The lower chamber also passed an amendment 248-174 to repeal the health-care law’s medical-device tax and voted 423-0 to approve a bill to pay the military on time should a temporary shutdown occur, in a series of votes that started shortly before midnight. The final tallies came in after midnight, and the House adjourned until 10 a.m. Monday shortly after.

I hope the GOP stands strong on this and doesn't cave to "the sky is falling" mentality that the Democrats will hope to generate if the government actually does shut down Monday at midnight. I initially thought "That would be a disaster," but I've "rethunk" and decided the disaster would be letting this socialist nonsense become entrenched, wrapping its evil tendrils around every aspect of the economy where they can never be excised. Despite the overwhelming BS that will come out of the left, both politically and in the media, the truth is, the Democrats know the Great Pretender/Empty Suit has saddled us with an unworkable program, and delaying it a year wouldn't hurt a thing.

The communists disguised as socialists and liberals will scream bloody murder that the country can't let a shutdown happen. But the truth is, Social Security checks will already have been mailed on September 30, and there isn't a single function of the U.S. government we would truly miss for a few days. Provisions have been made for the military to be paid regardless. Despite the absurd propaganda that we will hear once a shutdown occurs, eventually the American people will see that nothing will have been hurt by a shutdown of a few days that will (hoping against hope) convince the arrogant empty heads of the left that they have to kill this stupid socialist nightmare, or at least delay it to iron out the "kinks" -- and calling them kinks is like calling the Himalayas "nice little hills."

The Dems screamed about sequestration, and the administration predicted the end of civilization as we know it (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit), but we're still chugging away.

Now, ask me again on Tuesday if I don't get my retirement or VA disability checks. No, scratch that; ask me Wednesday, 'cause Tuesday I'll be on the phone all day telling the mortgage, car, etc. people I'll be late with the check this month....

I get one of those also, and the money will be there October 1, regardless. November 1 will be a different story if it lasts that long. Where the real screaming will start is when the Social Security checks stop.

The thing that infuriates one about both parties, both branches, is that they are not doing their job, to govern this nation, regardless of which side one thinks is right. They are suppose to pass a budget and authorization well before a deadline. With the games the politicians play, this comes up several times a year, over either the debt ceiling, the fiscal cliff, or the expiration of the last hatchet job they did. Every time, they make a drama out of it. Then they are heroes at the last minute. Everyone of them should be in prison. Never in the history of man has there been such an inept group of people keeping their jobs.

If there is a last minute deal, this will happen again within six months. As the article said, they adjourned until Monday. Their lazy carcasses should have been in continuous session until the job was done.

The Republicans have already caved. They promised to defund Obamacare or shut down the government. Instead they voted to repeal only one funding element--the medical device tax--and voted to delay mandatory enrollment for 1 year. The top Democrat who is in favor of repealing the medical device tax, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN), has said she would not support tying repealing this tax to a shut down. Also, newsflash to Republicans--a year from now there will be zero changes in the balance of power and the fiscal year will end on Sept. 30th as usual.

So the Repubs have accomplished absolutely nothing to stop Obamacare, in fact caved in from their stated goal and basically kicked the can down the road.

In a couple of days, perhaps a week, the Repub's will fold like a cheap lawn chair when Sasquatch sits on it, and vote to stop the government shutdown without getting any significant concessions from the Democrats.

I'm one of the 800,00 civilian employees that will not go to work if the Government shuts down. I'm OK with that if the GOP truly stands their ground and accomplishes something. But don't shut down and then cave in just a few days later. Would any of the congress be OK with losing their pay for a week or month to make this happen? I doubt it.

They tried to repeal it, and the vote in the Senate was clearly along party lines and would not change. There is a chance they can convince more moderate Democrats to join them in a delay, which gives them a year to change the makeup of the Senate and repeal it during the next session of congress, after next year's elections.

You're engaging in Democratic rhetoric designed to confuse, obfuscate, and lie. They (and now you) are putting words in the mouths of Republicans when it is said that the GOP is "going to shut down the government." The only ones who can shut down the government are the Democrats, by refusing to hear reason and delay this pending fiasco for a year.

Also, newsflash to Republicans--a year from now there will be zero changes in the balance of power and the fiscal year will end on Sept. 30th as usual.
Counting your chickens before they hatch, aren't you? The American public is already convinced this idiotic law needs to be dumped. The majority favor repeal or massive overall. It is becoming increasingly obvious the socialists have no intent of doing either. So you think that equates to a "zero balance of power"? Let me know how that works out for you, will ya?

In the course of battle, it is the wise commander who recognizes the exposed weaknesses of the plan of attack and makes adjustments so as to avoid loss. This is it, and it has a good chance of working. There are enough moderates in the Democratic Party who will vote for a delay.

Unlikely. But dream on if you must.

It's quite simple. The Republicans are the party that is attaching conditions on the continuing resolution to fund the government. Conditions that they KNOW the Democrats will reject. So, yes, it is the Republicans that will be responsible for the shutdown.

Supposing the Democrats in Reagan's era said, "We will pass your budget but we are attaching a tax increase, cutting military spending and repealing TEFRA." I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you would have blamed the Democrats if there was a government shutdown in Reagan's era.

Let me know how likely it is 12 months from now that:

a) ObamaCare will get repealed
b) Obama will not veto the repealing of ObamaCare
c) Congress will be able to override Obama's veto

Really? Can you provide a quote from the GOP promising to shut down the government?

A quote is not necessary. Actions speak louder than words.

Delaying a program that isn't ready for rollout, that the majority of the American people disfavor, now that it is clear what Pelosi meant when she said, "We've got to pass the bill to see what's in the bill", is perfectly reasonable. The socialists disguised as Democrats see the polls, they know the truth, and refusing to budge is simply pure stubborn ignorance and dictatorship. No, it will be the Dems fault the government shuts down, but then again, a shutdown is no big deal. Essential services continue, and the people who stay home are the money-wasters and dead weight anyway. We may actually like not having big government at work.

Yes, because bigger government and isolationism were bad things, while equality in taxation and fiscally responsible government are good things. This idiotic socialist piece of legislation is not a good thing, and I doubt even you think of it in that fashion. In fact, why don't you give us a defense of the ACA. I'd love to see you try that.

Bottom Liine: It needs to be at least shelved, and eventually repealed, if not eliminated outright at this time.

Let me know how likely it is 12 months from now that:

a) ObamaCare will get repealed
Pretty dang likely. Look at the polls. If the Democrat/socialists won't do it, the voters will remove them and put in people who will.

b) Obama will not veto the repealing of ObamaCare
Let him, and then we'll see how successful that is with a veto-proof majority in both houses after the 2014 elections.

c) Congress will be able to override Obama's veto
See my response to "b".
