Fortunately we won't have to choose Condi. She'll not get the GOP nod. McCain or hopefully George Allen will.

If the Rep's retain control of congress, it won't matter too much to me who gets the White House. The Republicans have proven to be not any more fiscally responsible than the Dem's.

What makes you think that Condi could beat Hillary? Hillary probably won't even run. Besides, Condi is a bureaucrat.

I am hoping for Mark Warner to run. Apparently, he is considering it.

I hope he does, too, BiR. He appears to be a centrist Democrat. I imagine that the moveon.org bunch wouldn't care too much for him.

Condi Rice is a lot more than a bureaucrat--she is a professional international relations expert, an academic, and is probably smarter than any president in history except maybe Jefferson. I don't know why she would want the job--when she retires from SECSTATE, her speaking fee will probably be 250K per speech!

As for Warner, the Democratic Party has not learned from the Johnson, Carter and Clinton Electoral victories and from Al Gore's asterisk loss--in this era, for a Demo to win, they have to be a relative centrist from the South. I really don't think they will nominate a centrist in 2008--and there are not that many centrists left in the party anyway. If Hilary does not get it, the Demos might do something really wacko and nominate a hard leftie. I would not be surprised if someone breaks out of the pack in the GOP either, if Condi does not run.

Then again, the nominations depend on what the issues are in 2007, and the general election on what is happening in 2008--and you never know about that.

Well, I hope hillary runs. It will make for real good fodder for the talk show guys, and she'll be rather easy to defeat. Tons of baggage, so much so that I doubt she will run.

Condi's never been elected (or ran) to/for anything. I don't think any President has been elected without prior office holdings of some kind. But that's not to say it couldn't happen. We could certainly do worse....Al Gore or Hillary or JF Kerry, or J McCain, and many more.

One that comes to mind immediately would be Dwight Eisenhower who had not held elective office prior to winning the presidency.
