This political environment is making it impossible for the President to do anything postive with the Russians. Obama and Hillary both tryed hard to do the same and were not successful. Might be that there can be no peace or that the lieing media has made it so bad...idk

Yeah it would be awesome if we had some leadership that could overcome this political environment but I suppose inauguration turnout and twitter feuds have priority right now for our fearless cheeto.

Yeah, not cool, along with the seeming increase in bomber flights.

Still, nothing worth starting WWIII over.

Obviously not, but they are gathering some good intel if they are hanging around Groton which is our premier submarine installation.

What do you figure they are gathering? Acoustic signatures?

Since Trump has become President we have Russian spy ships off our coasts, fighter planes buzzing our Navy, and illegal land based cruise missiles being deployed. Trump's national security adviser has resigned because of illegal communication with the Russian ambassador and Trump's aides are being investigated for having contact with Russian officials.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

I think Trump's position is clear,

"While addressing reporter questions during a news conference Thursday, President Donald Trump said the “greatest thing” he could do was “shoot” a Russian spy ship lingering off the East Coast.

“So when you ask me what am I going to do with a ship, the Russian ship as an example, I’m not going to tell you. But hopefully, I won’t have to do anything, but I’m not going to tell you,” a line from the transcript of Trump’s news conference Thursday at the White House reads."

Glad he could clear that up.

It is a little unnerving though considering I work on Naval Station Norfolk.

...for our fearless cheeto.
Name calling undermines any relevant point you have to make. Please have exercise decorum for the office of the President and basic respect for the personhood of Mr. Trump, even if you disagree with everything he stands for.

You don't want to stoop to the level of people who called Ms. Clinton, "Killary", or President Obama, "Obummer," or the regular disgraceful name calling of our current POTUS.

What a bunch of nonsense! The Russians keep doing what they have been doing for 40 years and all of a sudden it is all President Trump's fault?

Russian Kilo class submarines have been hanging around the exit course of US Los Angeles class submarines (and to a lesser extent Ohio class missile subs) for decades.

When I was still pastoring in San Diego one of our members was the Commodore for the submarine fleet. He said it was almost funny. A Los Angeles class sub would leave San Diego bay and as soon as they were out of US territorial waters a Russian Kilo would fall in behind the Los Angeles class US sub. Then another US sub would fall in behind the Kilo. Then another Kilo would fall in behind the LA class and so on.

He said every time a US sub left the bay it turned into a parade!

But I am sure Trump was calling Russia and giving them information on submarine departures 40 years ago.

You Trump haters are irrational. You need some serious counselling.

You're probably right.

Never said it was Trump's fault but by all means don't let that small detail keep you from calling me irrational and in need of counseling. Clearly it is me and not the guy raving about Trump haters discussing a current and real situation that is the irrational one.

Nobody even suggested that Trump called the Russians and gave them information? How embarrassing for you. You need some counseling or something?

Who said it was Trump's fault? Show us.

Yep. Now how often do Russian jets buzz our ships? How often do they deploy cruise missiles in apparent violation of treaty?

The real problem for this type of situation goes far back to incidents like the Pueblo when the USA, by her actions, declared to the world that "--and we are tired of war and nothing you do will provoke us enough to retaliate! So there!!"
There have been a few interludes to this "policy" since, but VERY limited and not always successful due to, in many cases, the ridiculous ROE that prevent the military from functioning as the military.
As for me & my house, we will pray for the POTUS and refrain from assigning "facts/motives" deduced by basically nothing more that a personal feeling for him of whatever stripe.
I humbly request you do likewise.

Nothing new.

Now if something happened like Karlskrona in 1981, I would be more concerned.
