Ryan says Republicans to target welfare, Medicare, Medicaid spending in 2018

“What’s coming next is all too predictable: The deficit hawks will come flying back after this bill becomes law,” said Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the ranking Democrat on the finance committee, during a speech on the tax debate. “Republicans are already saying 'entitlement reform' and 'welfare reform' are next up on the docket. But nobody should be fooled — that’s just code for attacks on Medicaid, on Medicare, on Social Security, on anti-hunger programs.”

Tis not the job of the FEDERAL govt to provide welfare.
60% of Medicaid funding goes to keep seniors in retirement homes. Without that funding they would be tossed out. One person here said on another thread hat would be good. If they die that would be less he has to pay to help them. Do you agree with this statement?

Let the State/Commonwealth govts take care of that - and/or social/religious organizations

and getting rid of some govt regulations would not hurt either

IIRC, most states do administer Medicaid at the state level. Here. they slapped the name "Apple Care" on it. If Paul Ryan tackles this, it won't be easy to reform. Not as bad as Medicare, but fraud is rampant in Medicaid too,

60% of Medicaid funding goes to keep seniors in retirement homes.

No. Sixty percent of those in retirement homes are under Medicaid, but the funding spent is nowhere near that proportion:

About three-quarters of all Medicaid spending on services pays for acute-care services such as hospital care, physician services, and prescription drugs; the rest pays for nursing home and other long-term care services and supports. Medicaid covers more than 60 percent of all nursing home residents and 40 percent of costs for long-term care services and supports.

From an article you posted in another thread:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said this week that the Senate is unlikely to tackle Medicare and Social Security in 2018.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has also ruled out 2018 Medicare cuts.

So you can quit posting your tired lie about how the GOP is going to cut Medicare, cut Medicaid, and kill Grandma and other nursing home residents to pay for the tax cuts.

Welfare is not really an acceptable term for these benefits. Almost ALL retirees today go on Medicare. 60% of Medicaid funding goes to senior citizens to keep them in retirement homes. One person here suggested that we could save money by letting them die. Maybe that was you. Was it?

This lie was refuted just a few posts upstream in this very thread.

No one said that.
That statement was questioned but no proof was provided. I looked it up and found that indeed "only" 31% of total Medicaid funding goes to Retirement homes to keep seniors there and not on the street.

"Over all, 31.5 percent of Medicaid’s $400 billion in shared federal and state spending goes to long-term care for the elderly and the disabled."

Long-Term Care Looms as Rising Medicaid Cost

I looked again at this data and realized it is over 5 years old and the situation is probably getting worse as the Boomers age.

Update
Medicaid Cuts May Force Retirees Out of Nursing Homes

While most Medicaid enrollees are children, pregnant women and nonelderly adults, long-term services such as nursing homes account for 42 percent of all Medicaid spending — even though only 6 percent of Medicaid enrollees use them.

The number I remembered was the % of retirement home residents on Medicaid.

A combination of longer life spans and spiraling health care costs has left an estimated 64 percent of the Americans in nursing homes dependent on Medicaid. In Alaska, Mississippi and West Virginia, Medicaid was the primary payer for three-quarters or more of nursing home residents in 2015, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The way to save money is to abolish things like the EPA, The Dept. of Education, Dept of Energy, the Fed Gestapo (FBI) and other such agencies. Of course, a lot of pajama boys would then have to find something other than a DC job.

Ryan must be one of the worst GOP Speakers ever. The best thing that the House could do is to dump Ryan. I don't know how Romney got stuck with him but he must have been part of the reason that Romney lost.

Well, the more I read from FTW, the more I’m convinced that either CTB has returned, OR, FTW is a clone of CTB!
Same accusations, same self righteousness, same feeble attempt at “gotcha” questions, etc.

They both must read Salon and Mother Earth News. Some Vox, The Atlantic, etc. Get their talking points.
