Downloaded it, tried it. It's all right, but I'll stick with my customized FireBadger.

What I want to know as a web developer:

Does the PC version render a page that looks the same as the MAC version?

That's always been a problem when I can't see a MAC because I don't own a MAC.

IF it does, I'll download it just for that reason alone. (I've already got 1/2 dozen browsers now for that reason.)

Bitsy, that is what they said at the keynote.
I downloaded the Mac version last night.
The announcement was actually for Safari 3 so it is a new version for the Mac as well.
I am going to try the windows version today as well.
The idea is to have a browser for OS X, Windows and the iPhone that are all the same.

I am typing this on Safari for windows and I think you need to try it yourself to really see why it is so great.
Some of the things are the bounceback feature in google.
The spellcheck, the unique progress indicator.
Private browsing is great for public computers.
bookmarks management is a dream.
It is very elegant.

You should really try it!

Yep, just like Apple! Safari installs but won't install quick time, Safari shows pictures but not text. Can't uninstall quick time, can't install quick time. Went to apple and did all but one of their "fixes" for quick time troubles, none of them worked so went back to support site to try the last "fix" and you know it! Apple site is down for maint. or upgrade.

Safari installs but won't install quick time

Did you already have Quicktime installed?

Safari shows pictures but not text.

I'm actually having this same problem on my work computer (Windows XP). Haven't figured out what is the trouble since it works beautifully on some of my coworker's machines. I'm guessing that it might be a problem with some custom fonts or an incompatability with another software package.

The final release of Safari should render them exactly the same.

You might want to give it a try. Remember though, it is beta software so don't change your site(s) on the basis of how it renders your pages just yet.

Mac OS X has been out for Personal Computers for years. But since Apple (in a very different way than Microsoft) is both a hardware and software maker, they are unlikely to release OS X for non-Apple systems. They make the majority of their profits from hardware.

I gave it a test drive and cannot say I am impressed. For ease of use, speed, and so on I cannot beat IE7. Sure it has some pretties, but so what.

Thanks for the correction :thumbs: I'm Mac ignorant as you can tell. I did know it was short for Macintosh but for some reason I thought it was in caps.

I really like IE7 too. BUT there will be benefits for folks like me who need to see pages in multiple browsers.

If you go to evolt.org, you will see tons of browsers that people use. It's an amazing list.

Would I be right in saying that most browsers are based on either the IE or Mozilla core? So in theory you just need to check those two?

Of course, I guess Opera is a little different.

Safari's really cool. It runs faster than Firefox on my desktop, though it's not quite as fancy.

I had no problem installing it but I was using Vista. I haven't tried it on XP yet.
Of course all of my windows installations are only for testing and don't have tons of stuff installed. There could be conflicts with existing installations.

You must not have much experience with Apple products.

They do have problems from time to time, but way more often than not, things just work.

I have been using Safari since before the original release, when it was still a Mac beta.
There are have always been some sites that did not work properly but it has always been stable.

Also, you should be able to uninstall Quick time from add/remove program, or have you tried that?

If you have problems with text and graphics hit the little bug button next to the address bar. It will let you give feedback.

Website came back up, tired the final fix and it worked (why don't I try the last one first and save time Quick time finally installed with Safari but Safari still does not display text, just graphics.

Yes, it is Beta, but you'd think text would work :thumbs: Anyone know where to report bugs, tried to find something on their site and found nothing. Is the bug on the bar at the top related to that - it doesn't do anything on mine ??

Of course, I guess Opera is a little different.

Most of the browsers that I've used look very much like either IE or Mozilla - I think Opera looks like Mozilla in lots of ways. Generally speaking, I figure if I can get a website working nicely on both of those, then I'm good to go. Of course there are kinks in the different versions that have to be worked around. I did bookmark a site that allows you to easily have older versions of various browsers on your computer. I was planning of looking at it more intently later. Finding where I bookmarked it may be an issue. I'm about to leave now, but I'll post that site later if anyone is interested.
