I can't comment on that. I just cut that from his email and posted it without editing. He did have an appointement in Paris about a year ago, to have a scan, but he was too bent over to get into the machine. He now has a new surgeon.

The debate in the USA is over what to do about people who don't have insurance. Everyone has medical care through Medicaid, or medical welfare, if they can't afford it. The elderly have Medicare at age 65 if they paid into it before age 65.

Would that have paid for a US baby's heart operation?

What care do the US over 65s

Yes, Sir. If the parents did not have the money, the taxpayers would have paid under Medicaid, which has been in place in all states since 1982.

At age 65, those who have paid into Medicare, get coverage. A supplement can be purchased, also. I am in a medical school HMO so my co-pays are cheap. Bush added a drug plan. Seniors get good coverage but I am on borrowed time so sometimes there is little that they can do or that a person wants to go through with them.

I think that the government charges $120 a month for Medicare, deducted from one's Social Security check. I have a cheap supplement that I buy privately. There are co-pays for about everything.

Years ago there was a book about the medical system called "It's Cheaper To Die," but I can't find it anywhere.

The rich sometimes have an insurance policy or Medicare but they pay out of pocket to see the leading doctors and have the best care in terms of more perks.

Seniors who go into nursing homes have Medicaid and Medicare to pay the nursing home bills after they have exhausted all of their personal money unless they were able to afford private insurance.

Well it's interesting then that the USA ranks only 26th in the world for life expectancy, while the UK ranks 15th, which isn't fabulous but is at least better than Germany or Canada.

Stones and glass houses, methinks. :D
Well that's not fair. Our advances in medicine are rivaled only by our horrendous diet of all you can eat buffets and free refills. :Laugh

But it's great that US doctors could save the life of baby Oliver. :)
And of course on this we heartily agree. :)

Everyone does not have Medicaid. The reduction in the number of uninsured starting in 2014 was due to the implementation of ObamaCare. The increase starting in late 2016 was due to the Republican Congress and Trump doing everything they could do to undermine ObamaCare. They couldn't repeal it so did underhanded things like default on payments due to insurance companies to keep the program going.

Now imagine that this baby with the rare heart condition is in a family which is one of the 12% without any insurance at all. Would he have been sent to the Boston Children's hospital for state-of-art medical care? No. He would have died, another forgotten statistic of our dysfunctional medical care delivery system in America.

Lack of insurance does not necessarily equate to lack of health care. Why should we pay the rapacious health insurance companies more money than private insurance would cost?

There you go again. You want that cradle to grave security from the government. Your charge just lacks facts to support it.

Then the thread title is obviously a lie.

I don't know anything about this case. I had a parent die in Florida and I thought no one was ever refused ambulance service. Florida is God's waiting room where old people go to die. It is very expensive to live there. The Florida bug never bit me.

I did read where Scotland Yard is gearing up for "right-wing" riots next week when the Tommy Robinson veredict is announced. It sounds as if Scotland Yard is saying that he lost his appeal.

Your second paragraph is irrelevant. There is already a thread on Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. This isn't it. This is about healthcare.
