Saved or Lost?

In our Bible study at church, we will come across a character that surprises that surprises one about their eternal state, or creates a different of opinion. Here are some that would be great to hear comment about.

1. The saved church member in 1 Cor who is having an affair with his step mother. It is especially confusing, in that in Chapter 6, there is a list of sins that use the phrase "will not see the kingdom of heaven, including some very close to what this guy was doing.

2. King Saul, was he saved? Always a good discussion

3. Is the man in Romans 7 and 8 saved who is inwardly struggling?

4. How many of the four individuals are saved in the parable of the sower?

I have been reading 1 Sam lately and the other day noticed something that I have never noticed before.

1 Samuel 15:15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

1 Samuel 15:21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

1 Samuel 15:30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.


Saul does not say "my" God but "thy" God.


I don't think Saul was saved based on his entire life and relationship to God.

The passage in 1Cor does not say the person is saved. That is an assumption. In fact if you read down there is reason to believe he is not. The problem was that they were allowing this person to remain being puffed up about this guys accomplishments with his father wife and allowing him to remain while in sin. Paul says put him out that his soul might be saved.

people in the OT are totally different then those in the NT. They did not have the spirit indwelling them as we do. Even David is a problem if you judge them by NT standards.

As to romans 7 it is not a passage to make such a decision. According to scripture no one is saved who is practicing sin.
