So THAT is what I was doing wrong! I went to a well. I sent the bucket a Hallmark card. I sent it flowers. I even sent it a box of chocolates, and it still didn't come up out of the well filled with water. Dang. Well, at least I know now that it didn't come up out of the well because it willfully rejected my affections. That makes me feel a little better, even though I'm still awfully thirsty.Originally posted by Primitive Baptist:
The Father DRAWS men to Jesus Christ (John 6:44). The Greek word is HELKUO. According to Strong's (1670), the word means TO DRAW, DRAG OFF. Metaphorically, it is used to mean TO DRAW BY INWARD POWER, LEAD, IMPEL. If you were to go to a well, would you "woo" the water bucket to come to you? No, you would DRAW it. That is exactly the way Christ used the word. It is exactly the way Primitive Baptists use it. We are justified Godward by the BLOOD. Period. We are justified usward by FAITH. It is by faith that we believe Jesus to be our all in all. That, Brother Ray, is justification by faith. We have peace with God through Jesus Christ just like the Roman letter says.
Too true. Given that some people like to take extreme liberties with the text, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone interpret "draw all men" to mean "make pencil sketches of all men".Originally posted by Primitive Baptist:
Well, it goes back to what I stated. If we would confine our theological vocabulary to that used in Scripture, we might avoid unnecessary problems.
'What must a man do in order to have eternal life?
Act 16:31 ' And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.'
What is faith if it is not belief. This doesn't say you'll be saved in order to be able to believe. Believing in Jesus Christ is saving faith.' [end quote]
Ray is saying,'I totally agree with you that this is what the Lord is saying to His people.
I have been told that Calvinists don't like the words, 'saving faith.' After all is said and done, all faith in Jesus is valid and insures Christians of everlasting life as His free gift.' [end quote]
