SBC Church list

Every SBC church is permitted to have a free web page on the SBC site. On the Tool bar click on "church search" and then type in the info for your church (name, city, zip) and a page should come up. Then there four sections for each church:

1) Welcome
2) Worship Service
3) Ministries
4) Map

I find many churches have left pages 2,3 & 4 blank. Why?

How about your church - does it have a ful listing - Do you even have a listing? If not, ask your pastor. If you do not have a page, you will need to contact your local association and/or your State convention to get a password.
I would highly you do so.

As Asst Pastor - it is my responsibility to keep ours updated. Info changes over time, so its good to keep an eye on it.

Who knows, someone from BB may want to visit your church, but if there is no info, or outdated info.......

I know a lot of churches who have their own websites keep up with that and it takes a lot of time.

Others who haven't felt the need probably don't know or don't want to use the SBC service, or know how.

Most churches do not know anything about it. Usually the pastor keeps up with those things and when he leaves it is left as is. You have to have your SBC ID to log in to make changes and most church members do not know anything about having it.

Its great for a church to have its own website - but it makes it easier for a visitor to locate a SBC church thur the SBC page. A church can put a link of their church website on the SBC page.

and at lest two other church members should have the password to get into the admin section of site.

Our page links to our website and that's probably the case with most. So they choose to not make extra work for themselves by just directing folks to that already posted info.

I agree, most do have a link to their church website, but many churches have outdated info.
But for the additional info, it only takes a couple of minutes to update it.

Lets take this a bit further - if a church has outdated info - would that make you wonder how efficent the church operates otherwise?

If the churches were all under the control of the SBC, perhaps. But as they are all autonomous, there's no real motivation for them to really take the time to duplicate what they have already done on their websites.

I've seen many church websites that haven't updated their info in months, if not years. It always makes me wonder if they're still opening the doors. Or if the pastor is who's listed on the web page.

Folks, here's the simple fact of life: If you're gonna have your church listed in the phone book, then make sure the phone number is one that people can call and get someone or something that tells them when the services are, or who they can call for more info. If you put that much effort into the phone book, you have to put at least that much effort into your other advertising media. Otherwise, you look like you don't care; and who wants to visit a church where their own people don't care?

Don,
You are absolutely correct.

How often have you seen a rusted church sign, Other signs with out of date info, ect?

When you see something that needs correcting - contact the pastor or some other church official until is completed.

I disagree - The motivation is I Cor 14:40 - do all things decently and in order.
Remember you only get one chance to make a first impression!

The first impression is their website. The SBC just happens to be the umbrella organization. If it wants that information completed, then hire an intern to go to member websites and get it.

Otherwise, what the churches are doing IS in order.

The SBC just chose to ask for info that no one wants to take the time to duplicate. So if you ask me, the SBC needs to just fix their website and take those extra sections out.

They want the info for their purposes. The member churches are obviously saying nope, that's on our website.

Zaac,

Evidently, you do not understand the reason for the SBC pages.

Info is helpful - since you do not have any info on yourself.......

I wonder if you actually are a Baptist...

Evidently the SBC doesn't understand it either as the member churches aren't feeling obliged to duplicate the info.

The info is available on their websites.

I wonder if you actually are a Baptist...

 Interesting. Since reading the first post, I was wondering if you worked for the SBC.

Speaking of outdated information, many churches on the SBC site will claim 800 members but in reality will have maybe 200 who attend regularly. Some do report attendance as well, however, and sometimes it's similar to the disparity I've noted.
