A school bus Driver in a Syracuse, NY; suburban school district has been fired for having a weapon on school property,
even though he has a conceal carry permit.

Is the punishment just right, too tough, too little

Open for discussion

Shoulda pinned a medal on him. School bus drivers should be trained and required to carry.

A school bus full of defenseless kids with an equally defenseless driver are a rich target for a terrorists.

If the school district has a law against weapons on school property than the firing is just. Do I like the law? No.

The law is the law and as a gun holder, he should have looked into the law. Of COURSE many school districts have this rule and they said that exceptions could have been made had he applied for it. I think the firing is just.

Bad law.

Our law about weapons on school grounds changed, lawful concealed license holders can have their weapon secured in a vehicle.

But this is NC, not a state that tried to make 8 rounds in a legally owned 10 round magazine illegal.

Now if those of us in Upstate, can successfully split from NY City- then we could see some reasonable laws being passed.

(Ann - where do you stand on NYC being its own State)

I grew up in western Maryland, so I can relate to NY and IL when it comes to one city running the whole state.

Texas has the same rule, however, during hunting season, in smaller towns, it is not unusual to see a rifle in the truck.

Typically, a quiet word is all it takes to correct the error.

But not in NY City!

There they only know one reaction, yet they will walk by and say nothing if someone is assaulted on the streets.

Western NY should put NY City on a diet.

But one half of the State Assembly is from NY City - hard to get anything done.

Here is two typical ones:
Earl Gardner This man was my grandsons bus driver, my grandson has special needs he fought getting on the bus this morning because things were different. I knew he carried never bothered me actually I felt that my baby was in good hands. He needs to be reinstated.

Dan Bender The law does state even if you have a valid NYS unrestricted carry permit, you cannot carry on school grounds. Even if I were to pick up my kids from school after I went to the range, and it was stored locked in the trunk, its still technically illegal. That being said, the law is stupid, and it ensures schools with "gun free" zones are sitting ducks for whomever wants to cause harm. Many other states encourage teachers and employees to carry on school grounds. New York, unfortunately isn't one of them. The law needs to change in this ever increasing crazy world we live in..
