Radioactivity is a naturally occurring property of the Heavier elements, elements which are quite massive individually on the atomic scale. (Lots of "stuff in the nucleus of the atom) Because of all this stuff in the nucleus, the balance of all this stuff and the interplay between the strong and nuclear forces struggles and particles are released....this is radioactivity. Hope this helps.
