Scriptural Ammunition vs. Internet Pornography

Just an FYI - savvy users will clear their temp files, their cookies and delete history after every internet session. Certainly someone who did not want to be caught with porn would do the same.

Kelly is right, though aren't people making money selling software that will supposedly make you "snoop proof"??

Thanks for your thoughts, USN2Pulpit.
My friend is into it so heavily that I think he has descended into that "pit" you mentioned. He has withdrawn from his church family, and does not have any interest in God anymore. He also has no desire to quit. That is why I stated that it is so devastating.

Isn't it amazing that something could possess so much power? All I can do is pray, which I do quite frequently.....

That would be the definite evidence of them trying to hide a problem with porn.

They can't delete while online without deleting everytime they visit a site. Thanks for giving that away and educating them. I believe if the notion causes suspicion that the efforts should be entailed to "nip it in the bud" before it produces fruit.

What happens in the case of those who get "hooked" and isolate themselves from the church, family, etc. are the signs of real problems, one being that they probably are deceived and are not even saved.

The Windows TweakUI plugin will also do this automatically whenever you shut down & restart your machine. I do it as well, but not because I visit porn sites. It's just a habit of "good housekeeping" I learned.

Besides, don't most porn sites require a credit card # or something similar?

John, I do it, too, every time I log off. Housekeeping. It's not a definite sign of anything, other than knowing what's good for your computer. Now, if someone's more savvy than the person trying to cover up, they can find the files, even after they were deleted. Nothing is really, truly gone from your computer until the space it occupied is taken up by something else. But the average user - even today - either wouldn't know that or how to do it.

Hope that isn't "giving it away."

It is the sign of a real problem, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they weren't saved. Again with that pesky "even Christians can sin, and badly" notion.

You've been given lots of good Scriptures here about sexual immorality and the like, but I'm wondering if that will help as much as Scripture about addiction and obedience. Those seem to be the big issues here.

This is going to sound fake, but I'll say it anyway...

"I have this friend who"...is having trouble with an addiction to internet pornography. This friend is a Christian who has fallen into the trap, and is very open to help from his brothers. Can anyone here offer up some scripture references that might help?
Any help would be appreciated.
Last year on Father's Day, our church gave a book to every man in attendance called "Beneath The Surface" by Bob Record. It deals with overcoming temptation, and sexual temptation in particular. It gives case after case where marriages and ministries have been wrecked by pornography. My heart and prayers go out to your friend.

Love in Christ,
Larry

They gave it to every man, huh? That's a good idea, so that anyone experiencing these temptations wouldn't be ashamed to have to "go ask for one."

It also serves as a stern warning for anyone who thinks they are too strong to fall into sexual temptation, by reminding us of David. It also gives the example of Joseph, how he fled the temptation of Potipher's wife.

There are many examples of men in this book who started out by viewing internet porn, excusing it by saying they could "handle it". Before long, they were in the chat rooms, which led to invitations to meet in person, which many of them did. It's frightening!

I believe whole-heartedly that obedience comes by second nature, that is by being born again. Though we often do need to be reminded by preaching and teaching of the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Ghost works through our conscience reminding us of our Christian duty to separate from the worldliness and youthful lusts of the flesh. It has to be dealt with. Grace does just that, it teaches us reverence for the Lord who bestows it to us who are so unworthy. Yes the warnings are throughout scripture, but grace has it's Divine ability to teach us, therefore strengthening us in the things of God and how to better serve Him.

It's not that any man is above falling, "Therefore if any man thinketh he stand, take heed, lest he fall", but also, "He that is often reproved hardeneth his neck and is suddenly destroyed, and that without remedy".

We are to be everlearning, teachable, BUT, coming to the knowledge of the truth.

Succombing to the "thorn in the flesh" has it's specific grace/ Balm of Gilead, if we only would receive that grace which is sufficient for every need. We are needy people, in need of grace!
