thank you for your service to the nation, were you a Christian before that or during that, and what was the hardest thing you had to overcome there?

I didn't become a Christian until after. I was very laid back. The Marine Corps doesn't like that.

Vietnam 65 and 66... Was in thru 1964 to 1969... Made a vow to the Lord, if he delivered me from that hell hole, I would follow him... Joined the church I grew up in since the age of seven, in 1968 and never regretted it... I was there until the age of fifty-seven, until we had to close the doors... I go with my 2nd wife, now to her church and I'm still following the Lord... Brother Glen:)

My son is very soft spoken, and reserved, and that seemed to allow him to bypass most of the "drop and give me 20 pushups" many in his squad kept on getting!

he called us last night from camp Lejunne, as he and his fellow 120 marines found out that the marine Corp had made a scheduling mistake, and that their training actually scheduled to start in 30 days!

I was never in the Marines, but from my Army experience, I suspect that your son will enjoy 30 days of performing every nasty little detail that Camp Lejunne has to offer. But, what would I know about today's modern military. My Army days are 45 years in the past.

The Military just got over 700 Billion budget, so they should be able to afford keeping those marines in Hotels and pay for meals!

No, they have to build Child care cents for the single parents (usually moms).

I suppose that a good 10 billion is just for salary and allowances
add anot 5 billion (guesstimate) for bonuses
guessing 50 million a year for family moves, ect
$200,000 a day just for eggs at breakfast.

Over 700,00 civilians work for DOD that is probally about 2 billion in saleries
and than - lest say 25,000 civilians serve overseas, say about 50 million per year for movement overseas.
A good guess would be 1 million dollars per year for new M-16's
- the items listed above are just a drop in the bucket.

Wouldn't take long to spend that 700 billion

BTW, when I was about 7 years old, my parents bought me a USMC Dress Blue (made by Sears?) uniform for Christmas. Does that count to being a Marine?

96-2000 here....And congratulations to your son. You should be proud of him. Marine Corps boot camp is a Psychologically trying experience.

He added on 30 pounds of muscle while there, and he also rated out as expert level shooter, even though never fired a rifle before!
