Well I've never felt under conviction about sharing my belief with a man and will quickly witness to a man. I've also sat in a class taught by a woman when our teacher didn't come til late.

Someone asked me why I attend the 40 plus class. Yes there is a class for 50 and up but the teacher is pro-choice in the case of incest and rape and I won't sit under him as a teacher. I do, however, give him a big hug every Sunday and have told him why I cannot be in his class. I love him dearly as a brother in Christ but cannot allow him to teach me.

In fact, over half the people in the 40 plus class is age 50 and 60's. We just changed the name a few months ago from 40's to 40 plus for that reason. I think they'll be some teaching changes this coming Sept.

Best teacher of Hebrew I sat under at one seminary was a woman; had female teachers at the Bible college amd also at the university where I took my doctorate. When we attend the local Anglican Church, we sit under a female priest. I don't fuss about it.

Now, I do belong to a Baptist group that will not ordain females, but they do send females off to the missions fields to teach.......ironic or contradictory? Here am I, Lord, send her!

    Cheers,

    Jim

First of all, for all you Trekonians: I am a redneck Jedi. There is tobacco juice all over the driver's side of the land speeder parked in front of my trailer; my old land speeder is up on blocks in the yard; my 'droids are stored under the front porch where the hounds sleep; one wing of my x-wing fighter is primer colored; I have notches on the handle of my light saber; I greet all my friends with "the force be with ya'll, and rumor has it that Darth Vader is my dad..and my uncle... [IMG]

On a serious note, one of the best discipleship students I ever taught was a woman; my wife called her my "evil twin." However, all the teaching took place with her husband and my wife in attendance at the same Bible study. As for online flirting, as a Biblical Counselor, I can certify that it happens, it gets out of hand, and it can really mess up a marriage.

I told my wife that I would tell her WHAT to do, WHEN to do it, and HOW to do it. I told her I did not want to see this house in such a mess again or ELSE. I came home Monday and didn't see a mess. I came home Tuesday and didn't see a mess. I cam home Wednesday and I could see just a little bit out of my left eye. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] (not true)

When I first started working for the company I am now with, the boss was a lady and someone asked me how I liked having a woman for a boss. I told them that I was raised by a woman for 20 years, I had been married for 20 years, hey, I didn't know any other way. (true)

I love women, I think everybody ought to own one.
(For some reason I get hurt a lot when I say that one. As a result, I have learned to run VERY fast.) :D

Back to the topic. I have no problem with learning from people who know more than me (and that's a LOT of people). In our adult Sunday School classes the teachers are always men but the women are encouraged to join in on the discussions and it has never occured to me to even consider this as anything except totally appropriate. So, on this board I think it is equally appropriate.

Hey...something just occurred to me...Aren't there women moderators on this board and aren't you usurping authority over men...hum...I think I smell a fight coming on. (I think I know why women don't flirt with me. )

Okay. I have been found out. I admit it. I joined the Baptist Board so I can flirt with the men. I openly admit it. I love flirting with the guys. Dr. Bob is my favorite one to flirt with. I think it is his bow tie....and Barnabas the elder!!! The only problem is that he keeps changing his name and I get confused.

But indeed, really, the BB was made for flirting, and I am there!!!!

     [IMG] [IMG] :D

    Dear Katie,
You state things well, and most SBCers I have personally come across agree with you. But it does seem to me that this interpretation is a recent development in Baptist thought. My Baptist grandparents and greatgrandparents did carry their ideas outside of church.
It has only been a very short time, relatively, in the work place that women have been bosses over men, and that many professions have not been effectively closed to women. Less than a hundred years ago, women could not vote, there were many legal restrictions on how they could own property if at all, and most schools and professions were closed to them.
I personally think all of this was wrong and that we have come a long way. But it did reflect an attempt to have a consistent viewpoint. In the last couple of generations, in my opinion, we have gone more to one set of rules for church and another for outside.
Your interpretation may indeed be the correct one. My point is that for most people who hold your view it is historically a recent development.

I don't see a problem with coed Bible discussion. It's the same as Sunday School and Discipleship Training to me.

    I'm encouraged by everyone's responses ...

Karen, I can't say it is a recent thought to anyone, since it comes straight from the bible. Under proper bible study, who Paul wrote to, what he wrote, why did he write it,and the fact he does say in worship(church), then it is directly bible, and not anyone elses idea.
