Yes I did but I think that he was responding more to DonnA than women in general. I must say though you are not far from right.
(Although you didn't accuse me) FTR: I didn't say he was a misogynist. I don't know him enough to make that assertion. The post, however, had misogynistic overtones, even if addressed only to one woman.

"Open Up Your Heart and Let the Sun Shine In"

Mommy told me something
a little kid should know.
It's all about the devil
and I've learned to hate him so.
She said he causes trouble
when you let him in the room.
He will never ever leave you
if your heart is filled with gloom.

So let the sun shine in
face it with a grin.
Smilers never lose
and frowners never win.
So let the sun shine in
face it with a grin
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

When you are unhappy,
the devil wears a grin
But oh, he starts to running
when the light comes pouring in
I know he'll be unhappy
'Cause I'll never wear a frown
Maybe if we keep on smiling
He'll get tired of hanging 'round.

If I forget to say my prayers
the devil wears a grin.
But he feels so awful awful
when he sees me on my knees
So if you're full of trouble
and you never seem to win,
Just open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

So let the sun shine in
face it with a grin.
Smilers never lose
and frowners never win.
So let the sun shine in
face it with a grin
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

Do you think people are as serious and subdued as they should be these days. It seems that there is an overwhelming majority that think everything in life needs to be light and airy all of the time. You watch talk shows and the way the hosts try so hard to joke and laugh at everything that is said kind of turns me off at times. The news shows have to have it, too, especially the morning crews. The politicians have to make the talk show rounds to prove they can act a fool. The churches want a pastor that can a tell a good joke, every Sunday in some instances. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good laugh just as much as the next guy, but everything has a time and place and I think humor is better when it is natural and not forced. Maybe it all started when "smile" became the catchphrase before a picture was taken. You never see people smiling in old pictures. Or "smile, Jesus loves you!" Jesus loves me whether I'm smiling or not and sometimes I just don't feel like smiling. Doesn't mean anythings wrong with that or me. What are your thoughts?
Nothing wrong with laughter or a good joke, but if it's forced I can think of a few reasons:
1. If we are angry or crying inside, forced laughter is a way to hide it.
2. If we can laugh at someone else's sin, it won't seem so serious when we ourselves commit that sin.
3. People natually are drawn to happy people. Pretend you're happy, and you'll have lots of friends. Look at Hillary Clinton. She has smiled her way through her husband's affairs and she's smiled her way to the presidential nominations. Does anyone actually believe she's always that happy? I doubt it, but it's helped her rise politically. I'd personally hate to see what's behind that plastic smile.

Cutter: We didn't make it about you...YOU did.
everything that is said kind of turns me off at times.

A gentle warning...Put downs and personal attacks are not allowed on the BB and if continued will be dealt with.

Also, you do not have the authority to tell someone they cannot post on your thread. Anyone may post wherever they wish.

Maybe you should have posted this in the MPF?

It's sad to see that a couple of people get it, and some that should understand and get it don't. You have my sympathy.
When dealing with your subjects on the BB try to keep your emotions in check. Thanks.

Maybe my posts are just hitting a bit too close to home for you?

I don't have 'subjects' on this board. I have friends.

Please show me where I got emotional. I was giving you a gentle warning. The personal attacks I was referring to were not even directed at me. I am just doing my job. Better a gentle warning than a harsh banning.

BTW, this would be your second official warning...

3. Show grace to the other posters. When someone disagrees with you, discuss it; but be slow to offend, and eager to get into the Word and find the answers. Remember, when discussing passionate issues, it is easy to go too far and offend. Further, if we are "earnestly contending for the faith" it would be unrealistic not to expect at times to be misunderstood or even ridiculed. But please note that your words can sometimes be harsh if used in the wrong way. The anger of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

4. Personal attacks will not be tolerated. The board has an edit button enabled. We encourage you to use it and edit your own words. Moderators and Administrators will be visibly proactive in dealing with potentially offensive situations. Posts of a violent or threatening nature, either implicitly or explicitly, will be deleted, and the poster's membership revoked. We encourage personal problems with other members be resolved privately via email or personal messaging.

Where can I fill out an application?
You have to be a friend to have a friend.

Sorry, it's just part of a woman's biological makeup.
Not all women are alike.

And a fine job you do, too. I hope the pay is good.
Thank you! This is a six figure job...

How many do I get?
Two before you are brought up before the Administrative Council.

Oh yeah I am blessed, what do you think about the point I made in post 29?
I agree most of the posts were off topic. But most of us really did feel, from the demeanor of your OP, that you needed some cheering up. And that's what friends do. :)

I apologize if I took it the wrong way.

So Cutter, the one that admits to being afraid of heights in the "what scares you" thread, is in danger of being pushed over the edge of the BB cliff. YIKES!

And on top of that is in danger of being voted off of the island by the BB Administrative council!

Dorothy AKA I am Blessed) Weren't you frightened?
Wizard of Oz AKA Cutter) Frightened? Child, you're talking to a man who's laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe... I was petrified.

Nothing wrong with a merry heart, my friend.

I think these things vary from person to person. Yes, I am sure some people are not serious enough. Your point about churches (I would say some churches) wanting a pastor who can tell a good joke would be an example of this, as would those churches that feel it right to dress their preachers up as clowns. On the other hand, there are some Christians who act as if smiling and humour are inherently sinful, and go around with long, doleful faces, looking as if they were on there way to hell rather than heaven!

Things vary from country to country, too. Television newsreaders here rarely laugh when reading the news. (In fact, I often wonder how some of them manage to keep a straight face, if the item they are reading out is humerous, like an item about a goat getting lost on a bus). And politicians here may often be accused of "acting the fool", but that is done by people who think their policies and decisions are mad, not because they don't treat things seriously.

Cutter, I said my piece about the OP in my first post. I think people take things, and themselves, way too seriously and I still think you woke up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday.

Attack me and make snide remarks about me all you want. Doesn't affect my day in any way.

Oh, and remember: next Friday... is Hawaiian shirt day. So, you know, if you want to go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

And MP, we're gonna need to go ahead and move you downstairs to storage B. We have some new people coming in, and we need all the space we can get. So if you could just go ahead and pack up your stuff and move it down there, that would be terrific, Ok? And, oh, there's that stapler. I'm just gonna go ahead and take that with me.

I'm still bummed out...we got back our pictures from our mission trip, and I smiled in two of them. I've written an apology letter to each member of the group, and I'll be resigning from my position. From here, I'll go and live in the deserts of Elbonia, eating locusts and never smiling again.

But...uh...well...I'm gonna burn the place down.
