Like the sheriff, do you oppose teachers being armed?
I think that police officers being in the schools is better than arming the teachers, but I do think teachers being licensed and armed is something to consider.

I think having an armed person at schools is a good thing. Maybe not the teachers unless they want to be armed.
IMO, according to the article he didn't express opposition to teachers being armed.
His plan removes the necessity for teachers to be armed. Quite a bit of difference in that and saying he's in opposition to a teacher having a gun in his pocket/desk, if he or she chooses to do so. (Before anyone yells -- properly trained to use a firearm and has a CCP.)
BTW, I wonder how many in that posse, mentioned in the article, were also teachers?

First, I don't want anyone, who does not want to carry a firearm or any other weapon to be forced to do so. Second, anyone who carries a gun, in public, should be properly trained to use it.
That said, it takes more than an "armed person" at school or anywhere else with a large crowd of folks to be effective. That one person can be everywhere, especially with this modern trend of single story schools spread out on large sites. (Last two schools build in my area use enough land to be equivalent to a small farm.) IMO, it does little good, if it takes 5-10 minutes to reach the spot where a killer has chosen his targets. One armed person on a large campus is just a token jesture, again IMO.
In the school environment there should be enough armed people to:
A) Protect the children and adults on school property.
B) Let all the copy cat killers know, without a doubt, they will immediately meet deadly resistance to any attempt to harm those present at school.
Administrative staff, custodial staff, coaches, teachers, bus drivers, and anyone I've forgotten should be allowed to open or concealed carry, as their circumstances warrant. In a school environment, most would be concealed for obvious reasons.
No cops in school, because we need them out there in the streets to keep the entire city safe, unless a city which wants them in schools has the budget to hire more cops to balance the shifts when those cops will be in schools.
The better options for a city willing to put up with the budget:
a. a pair of armed security guards or special police officers complemented with one or two authorized school staff who has been trained and handgun certified or qualified and to whom is or are assigned a handgun owned by the school. These should be posted and stationed in discreet places but where they have quick and easy access to trouble areas;
b. a one-way mirrored cubicle manned by a trained personnel who monitors a series of cctv cameras. This cubicle is where one armed guard is also stationed discreetly who has quick egress when necessary. He is NOT the CCTV monitor. Guards and armed staff will be equipped with two-way radios with this cubicle as control room directing them to where the incursion occurs.
c. the guards and the armed school staff must be ready, willing, and able to shoot to kill, not just disarm or maim, regardless of the perpetrator or perpetrators' age or gender.
d. implement a training program for teachers on how to react to an active shooting or threat of such. What to do with their students, etc., and install doors with double or triple locks, or construct a series of emergency exits and interconnected runways leading to the exits. Emergency alarms exclusively used for active shootings that can be triggered only by designated responsible staffs from different locations (cafeteria, school offices, janitors' offices, etc).
Lastly, don't keep it a secret. Let one and all know the school is armed and will meet any threat with deadly force to protect its students. Declaring the area a gun free zone is like labeling a sugar bowl as 'SALT' and hoping the ants will stay away from it.
