I just hate it when I am forced to agree with Brother Villines! :D

But, yes, what is wrong with a church that would call a 21 year old to be their pastor? This is the problem we face today in many Baptist churches which have an anti-intellectual and anti-educational bias. A man graduates from College at 21 or 22 and goes right into the pastorate, regardless of the fact he is totally unprepared!

He should spend at least 3 more years in Seminary, then at least 5 or 6 more years working under an older, seasoned man. Then, maybe, he is mature enough to be a pastor. Have we forgotten that one of the NT words used to describe a pastor is the word "Elder." He should be an "Elder" before he is even considered for the position of pastor!

If off-color, witty remarks were baseball, Teresa, that would be a straight, slow ball right down the middle.

Pedophilia is the desire. Molestation is the act.

A fifteen-year-old by any modern standard is a child.

    The feeling's mutual Doc :D [IMG] :D

We're in complete agreement here, as long as you substitute "man or woman" wherever you said "man" in that post ;) .

Brother, it's time to speak up!

He is a legal adult and she is a minor. That is the recipe for trouble -- even if everyone is chaste.

It's a very bad situation for a lost person and a horrible situation for a pastor -- like it or not, he could destroy his church through this relationship.

</font>[/QUOTE]Rev. There are more than one pastoral position, I was asking for the clarification as to what position he holds, that requires more than justa pastor at the church.

    Teresa,

I understood your question perfectly (once I stopped laughing at the answer that immediately came to mind).

Joshua, I am fully cognizant of the missionary position but am not familiar with the pastoral position. Is it substantially different? :D (I am really gonna get in trouble for that one!)

It would be my pleasure to have a cold glass of lemonade with you. I suspect we have a very similar (read: warped) sense of humor. :D

    Murphy said:
Since the parents are leaders in the church and support it... they are biased and cannot make a decision on this matter. He is 21 and a Pastor and she is 16... and first of all he should not put his flock in this position. The church leaders... other pastors, deacons, and members should head this off at the pass. This can cause nothing but trouble and split the church. I'm sure everyone in this church doesn't see the situation as such a wonderful thing. I agree with Doc Cas and Joshua that he needs to have a member of the clergy as a mentor and also believe this could destroy his ministry before it gets started. His ministry flushed right down the toilet and his ministorial training down with it. It talks in the scriptures about a minister who is a novice and that's one the old devil loves to get a hold of. If you are a friend of this young man... put out this kindling before a fire really starts. He needs to concentrate on his ministry and inform her parents and the church of the same. Later on if he feels the same way after she has grown up and she feels the same then this might be persued... Not now he is a novice and a prime target for the wiles of the devil!... Brother Glen

Please forgive me! I am your stereotypical blonde! Everything said in passing just goes in one ear and out the other. It seems some parts are missing in action! ;)

As to the question from Baptist Forever, he is the only Pastor so he is the Senior Pastor.
I Pray that no one else will veer off down the road that Joshua and DocCas have. But actually it's quite funny that we have a liberal and a legalist both with their mind in the same place, I guess there is common ground in all of us if we go low enough to find it. Keep it clean fellas there may be some Christians reading this.

Excellent point! It is not really as much about them as much as it is the church. What they do will almost certainly affect the church in a negative way.

Personally, I get a little creeped out when the single Youth Minister starts dating a 2nd year college girl who was previously in his youth group. But a college girl is a far cry from a 15-year-old!

No, a pastor should not date a youth. At all. Period.

Should a pastor date a member of the congregation? Sure, why not? Using appropriate wisdom, of course.

I am a minister at our church, on staff, paid, "called" staff. I am dating a guy in the congregation. It is very appropriate.

Just a few points. 1. If you think I am a legalist, you are laboring under a severe misconception of me and my faith. 2. If you find such a discussion "low" and unclean may I suggest the problem may lie in your own mind and not in either Joshua or me? This is, after all, called the "Pastor's Corner." It is where pastors can talk with other pastors regarding subjects pertaining to the pastorate without fear of attack by Pharisees. 3. Your insinuation that neither Joshua nor I, nor, presumably, the other posters here, are Christians is not only ad hominem, it is also legalism, which you accuse me of. Perhaps you would like to reconsider your remarks and edit your post accordingly?

    ???

Now that the age of consent in Georgia is 16, wouldn't that make him a pedophile?

I would seriously question the sanity of a church calling a 21-year-old as their pastor; and I would even more seriously question the maturity of any 21-year-old who dates a 15-year-old.

Ugh! It makes you almost wish there were a bishop to report him to.
