Yes he should be pardoned, putting someone in jail for not wearing a hat is stupid.

But I must add If the President tells you to do anything that isn't anti-Christian you should be in submission to him, even when you don't him or the stupidity of his commands. In short it is not a sin to wear a UN hat, but if the president tells you to, it is probably a sin not to.

He wasn't put in jail. But, he did receive a bad conduct discharge. I have mixed feelings. A lawful order is a lawful order. Do your time and then get out if you don't agree. I was in the Army in the 80's and there were guys serving on U.N. missions so it's not like this was a unique incident.
