Should I have to vote to view a Poll?

Are there any reasons or excuses you do not vote in some polls?

#1- It all depends on what the poll is about.

#2- Some polls are bigotted, or extremely weighed in one direction. Some are just silly. Some can be offensive.

Exactly the reason to have an entry for other and/or none of the above.

While some polls are in fact (IMHO) valueless, inane, or don't allow enough range of answers, we still have the choice of ignoring such polls altogether. Sometimes the number of responses to a poll can reveal at least as much as the answers themselves.

You can also make a blind poll:
a poll where nobody can read the results
until the closing date.

Reading the results BEFORE taking a poll is ludicrous. It takes out all value of your opinion and makes you consider what OTHERS have chosen.

Been in lots of church business meetings like that. No one will say anything about a slate of officers and, if a voice vote, it will pass.

But give a secret ballot and the truth is told.

Think of these polls as a secret ballot.

I went to vote here, but system told me I had already voted....I guess that makes one thing obvious, the running of U.S. elections should be handed over to the BB

I'm with Dr Bob on this! I've seen a FEW that I would not vote in, but that I would have liked to see how the results just out of curosity.

However if it must be one way or the other, I'd say "No vote, no see results"!

I respectfull disagree.

Most polls are started as advocacy polls. The desired results are KNOWN.

On the other hand, there are always spoilers who will vote against the majority. On another board i saw a series of polls "Please VOte Yes" -- no question,just a plea to vote 'yes'. About 92% vote yes, 8% vote no.

So, if you want to write an advocacy poll, make it so you don't have to vote to read the poll. I have such a poll at:

Each poll can be set by the author how they want it to be. It is a case-by-case thing, as i described above.

Sometimes seeing the resulst ahead of time can sway the voting which would be bad. However, giving a "no opinion" option would allow one to vote without voting. There are topics on which I have no real opinion or the options aren't sufficient, but would like to see how people are voting.
