Should the USA grant statehood to Alberta?

President Obama's endorsement of Justin Trudeau re-elected Trudeau for 4 more years with a plurality of 157 seats with 170 needed for majority but the hard left has enough seats to give Trudeau a leftist majority and Trudeau himself, not really the love child of Fidel Castro, probably is a hard-core leftist.

Now in order to reduce greenhouse gases, Trudeau needs to stop oil consumption and he has already said that Alberta will not be able to build a pipeline ever to export petroleum, of which Alberta has a very rich supply. Alberta is thus faced with widespread unemployment and hard times. They voted almost 100% against Trudeau and are now thinking of breaking away to start their own country.

No. Canadians are indoctrinated and used to socialism.

Not Albertans--they are oil workers. Saskatchewan probably would want to leave Canada, too. It's the east coast of Canada and Ontario that wants the federal police state. Out west they want to make money and live free or die.

In the video, all those people in Toronto want big government security and not one of them complained about the lack of a Bill of Rights in Canada. They are ripe for sharia law.

If they live in Canada, they are used to a socialist system. We don't need more of that kind of influence.

It is true that Canada is a socialist police state but Trudeau and the Liberals thanks to help from Obama and money from American Democrats intend to starve the western prairie to death, which starvation is a typical socialist tactic. Toronto people expressed no sympathy for people on the prairie--oil workers and farmers.

I agree with you on Quebec--those people just want more welfare from Ottawa and more speeches in Trudeau's bad French accent. They will never assimilate and they will never get off Ottawa subsidies long enough to visit what's left of France. Quebec should not be offered US statehood.

Alberta is like 3rd in the world in oil reserves. Alberta would help the USA!

Could be, but I don't trust Canadians. None of them.

You are probably right. They won't rebel against Ottawa in the long run. They have never had a Bill of Rights so there is nothing for them to miss. Their conservative candidate was pro-choice and had a newspaper reporter arrested and handcuffed. They are only 39 million people and are getting ready to bring in another third of a million refugees from the Middle East probably. Most of the people live in the east and that is not a very prosperous area plus they have a heavy-handed welfare state that rations medicine. The press is licensed by the state and funded by the state and so only says and does what Trudeau wants. The majority of Canadians voted for an authoritarian state.

We can give California to Canada and get Alberta in return, yes I would be on board with that. Albertans are basically your salt of the earth rugged hardworking people while Californians are soft and beholden to the government for their needs.

Alberta Who?

$64 question.

Alberta has great oil deposits. They send $14 billion to Ottawa to fund welfare in Quebec. Quebec has more than their fair share of representatives in the Canadian Parliament. Quebec is a backward area.

Saskatchewan & Manitoba would be better off outside of Canada, also, if Alberta left.

British Columbia is another rotten state. Vancouver is a hotbed of climate crisis activism but they are silent about how they dump their raw sewage in the Pacific Ocean.

The Canadian media should be renamed Pravda. The CBC is funded by the government and make up about 80% of Canadian media. Only the Ottawa side of the story is ever told.

Canadians are highly taxed. Most of them look like they are down on their luck. They have preachers in prison for saying homosexuality is a sin. Their medical records are in the hands of Ottawa and they have long waits for medicine due to shortages of money.

NO; most of its people would never consider themselves American, no matter what.
Recognizing it as a separate nation is another matter.

Probably not. I think Trudeau more or less nationalized the oil or at least taxed away the profits so that billions goes to Quebec, which doesn't work.

The most shocking province is British Columbia, which dumps huge amounts of raw sewage in the ocean.

Most Canadians seem poor and getting poorer from government control of everything. They do everything in two languages--a nutty idea.

Many years back when we lived in northern Maine and my wife was expecting our 2nd child, she visited an obstetrician in Edmundson, New Brunswick, because our town's hospital didn't have one on staff. We got that doctor's report via a collect phone call. Not sure whether that meant he was an ultra-tightwad, or if it was a reflection on salaries paid to physicians under Canada's medical system. If the latter, I'm sure they attract the top-flight talent.

Very interesting. I personally think that in the beginning socialism has some talent but as time goes by the talent leaves.

For example, in Cuba, which last saw a free election in 1948 and has had communism since 1959, taxi drivers make way more than doctors because they have tourists as customers. So why would you go to med school when a chauffeur's license would pay you twice as much?

I always wanted to see Maine. It seems to have it all: mountains, woods, & ocean and a droll sense of humor.

Should the USA grant statehood to Alberta?

Hello Church Mouse Guy,

I just stumbled upon this thread, while scanning the internet. If you are interested in the subject of Alberta becoming a state, please see Facebook group 51st State. There are about 1600 members, mostly Canadian, who all feel that Alberta should secede from Canada, and join the US. Here is the link:

Thanks! Very interesting. Canada is having a breakdown in law enforcement as Trudeau controls a national police force that refuses to enforce the law. There are endless protests against any economic development. The protests against the railroads are so serious that there have been two derailments this month. Trudeau is no good.

Depending on market prices for oil and country resistance to oil production, Albertan oil may not be worth getting out of the ground. Some of their problem has been their government and citizen resistance to building pipelines which make it cheaper to get it out for sale. Using railroads is a parasitic drag on what they make on selling their oil, and it is less safe than a pipeline. US also has had major pipeline resistance movement. Alberta becoming part of the US, imagine that.
