Should the USA grant statehood to Alberta?

Thanks! Very interesting. Canada is having a breakdown in law enforcement as Trudeau controls a national police force that refuses to enforce the law. There are endless protests against any economic development. The protests against the railroads are so serious that there have been two derailments this month. Trudeau is no good.

Yes, also for each one point tick in unemployment in Alberta there are seventeen more suicides. The liberal Prime Minister is literally pushing the conservatives off of a cliff.

I am the administrator for the 51st State Facebook Group. I am an American who was asked to do this by a person in Saskatchewan. We have close to 1700 members, who are mostly Albertans. But, we really need to have Americans involved, too.

People in the group read the comments here, and they realized that they are being lumped together with eastern Canadians to some degree. The reality is that until the railroads appeared in Alberta, they were cut off from the east, and actually using USD, and the US postal service, during the end of the 1800's.

Anyway, I really hope that you can join the group and give some US perspective. Also, the group is probably 98% strong conservative, with Trump at 92% approval rating in the western Canadian polls, over their own Prime Minister. Please look us up and join us.

President Obama's endorsement of Justin Trudeau re-elected Trudeau for 4 more years with a plurality of 157 seats with 170 needed for majority but the hard left has enough seats to give Trudeau a leftist majority and Trudeau himself, not really the love child of Fidel Castro, probably is a hard-core leftist.

Now in order to reduce greenhouse gases, Trudeau needs to stop oil consumption and he has already said that Alberta will not be able to build a pipeline ever to export petroleum, of which Alberta has a very rich supply. Alberta is thus faced with widespread unemployment and hard times. They voted almost 100% against Trudeau and are now thinking of breaking away to start their own country.

Should the USA grant statehood to Alberta?

No. If they do become sovereign, negotiate a trade deal with them, but no more States.

Thanks again. I did not know about the suicide rate in Alberta. I watch Rebel Media. My personal opinion is that Trudeau is instigating these shutdowns and derailments in order to gain control and nationalize more industry. The average Canadian seems to be quite liberal although it is different out west. I will think about joining your group over the weekend. I really have no knowledge in the subject other than I know that Canadians spend a lot of money in communist Cuba and some of them have had terrible experiences there.

We are too weak ourselves to acquire more territory. Alberta has huge oil reserves. They do not have a bill of rights and the government has too much power in the hands of a crook like Trudeau.

Should the USA grant statehood to Alberta?

Nope, just make all of Canada our 51 state!

They haven't asked for it and wouldn't accept.

Depending on market prices for oil and country resistance to oil production, Albertan oil may not be worth getting out of the ground. Some of their problem has been their government and citizen resistance to building pipelines which make it cheaper to get it out for sale. Using railroads is a parasitic drag on what they make on selling their oil, and it is less safe than a pipeline. US also has had major pipeline resistance movement. Alberta becoming part of the US, imagine that.

Actually, it is the federal government and neighboring provinces that are impeding pipelines. The province of BC has said that no pipeline from Alberta can be put in the province.

Also, Canada passed a law forbidding oil from ever being loaded on a tanker on the BC coast. But, the export hurdles also make it hard for them to export to the US and get fair market value. Because they are not in the US, the rules for export are very strict. Those rules would disappear, if they should become a state.

They also have the third largest oil reserves in the world. So, instead of buying from Saudi Arabia, and enriching Middle Easterners, we would have a better chance at keeping the money in North America, and at not sending money to places where we do not believe in their values.

I had no knowledge about the subject, either, until last fall. When I started looking into all of it, I realized that the reason we do not have the same types of things going on is because the founding fathers realized that they must put checks and balances into the government. Canada does not seem to have the same thing. Also, we have a Bill of Rights. These to things were intended to protect people from governmental abuse.

Canada appears to be a "soft dictatorship", in functionality, due to a lack of checks and balances. But, you add to this, special interests even in the US that can buy off their politicians. Then, it all gets worse.

Many people in Western Canada are saying that they want the same kind of rights that we have.

So, why is there a Canada? Why didn't the American Revolution fix all of this? Tragically, the founding fathers tried to get Canada on board. When the Continental Congress sent letters to the north inviting Nova Scotia our sister colony to join, one district actually signed up. But, they were under the thumb of the British. And, the letters that were printed in French and in English were never carried about and read, primarily because they had an extremely low literacy rate, with less than one in five hundred people being able to read. This must have been devastating to the Continental Congress, because they were trying to rally all British colonies this side of the Atlantic into a single confederation of states. They were even trying to rally Bermuda, and British colonies in the Caribbean.

The whole system of making money off of people on the land seems to have been inherited by eastern Canada from England. Thus, the people in Western Canada have been complaining about their lot, for close to a century. But, it has become worse in more recent years, especially since Alberta is made to pay socialism payments called "equalization" to prop up other provinces. Alberta has already paid $633 billion dollars to prop up other provinces that cannot make it on their own - at least on paper. Thus, people now want out.

Anyway, back to the original thirteen colonies. The thirteen colonies signed on to the Articles of Confederation. But, the fourteenth colony Novia Scotia did not sign on. As a result, the founding fathers put an article into the Articles of Confederation giving Canada the right to join the union and enjoy all such benefits of the union. It is Article 11:

"Article XI. Canada acceding to this confederation, and adjoining in the measures of the united States, shall be admitted into, and entitled to all the advantages of this union; but no other colony shall be admitted into the same, unless such admission be agreed to by nine States."

Okay, I probably have not read the Articles of Confederation for 60 years so I did not remember Article XI even after you posted it above.

I first started reading about Canadians vacationing in communist Cuba to the disgust of American Cuban communist dissidents. Just a day or two ago, a man died in Cuba after being stranded on an island for four days or so beyond the planned vacation tour and a couple of hundred Canadians were unable to depart on time. Some ran out of medicine and it is not clear if the man who died at the airport was in need of medicine. At any rate the Cuban airport lacked a defibrillator even though many Americans believe that the Cuban medical system is better than ours, which is hard to imagine since only North Korea is poorer than Cuba. American Cuban communist dissidents say that Europeans and North Americans are subsidizing the Castros and the Cuban communist party but the tourists don't seem to believe that. Needless to say, Cuba is the one of major destinations for sex tourists and pedophiles. Many Canadians and Brits have had very bad experiences in Cuba and I suppose some Americans also. I told one Cuban not to go back after he defected in Mexico and then reached family in the USA. You never know what the communists will do.

Then I started following Rebel Media during the re-election of two-faced Trudeau.

I could see how Canada could be divided into two countries--east and west. The east seems to be a welfare state while the west seems to be prosperous but sparsely populated. Quebec seems to be overrepresented in the Canadian parliament. I don't see how British Columbia fits into western Canada as they seem to be uber liberals. I think that the Canadians who like freedom the most are in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I doubt if the Indian tribes in Canada would be very happy to be part of the USA.

When Canada was invited to join the United States - National Constitution Center

The invitation stood open until the proposed (now current) U.S. Constitution was ratified in June 1788 and a new government took office in March 1789.

In any event, there seems to have been little interest among the British colonists in Canada to leave the crown and join their rebellious neighbors to the south. During the American Revolution, the Continental army tried to invade Canada and was repulsed.

The relationship between the British, their Canadian colonists, and the United States remained strained after 1789, and it was a core political issue in America until the end of the War of 1812.

A second invasion of Canada failed in the War of 1812, as British troops and militia forces made up of loyalists who had left the United States defeated another invading American army. The British retaliated by burning the White House and the Capitol in Washington.

Since then, the idea of Canada joining the United States has become a moot point.

Western Canada seems to have a lot of unemployment. Some them will probably try to find jobs on the USA. They are scheduled to bring in another million immigrants. Canadians are very liberal and somewhat anti-business.
