I think we are called to hold all of our brothers and sister accountable, not just pastors. Unfortunately, we live in a country where 75% of the population is overweight and 40% is obese. Weeding out all the gluttons would be quite a tall order.
Yea...that was tongue in cheek.
I think it would be great for churches to have programs to help one another in their struggles, whether porn, alcoholism, financial stewardship, weight loss, etc.
It is just disappointing to see such a narrow issue here. From my experience (only what I have seen....but I have never had an overweight pastor) gluttony is less common a problem with pastors than many other issues.
And the main reason for obesity does not seem to be gluttony. It seems to be what one eats (like you mentioned) rather than the amount of food.
I work swing shift (12.5 hour shifts). I take the time to plan meals (not prep, but planning). If I didn't I'd be stopping to get fast food almost every day (or eating processed foods).
We have convenient food, but this type of food is rarely healthy. I know some who eat most meals from the convenient store (grap a hot dog, hamburger, pizza slice, whatever is on that rolly thing by the fountain drinks).
I even have a package of bratwursts in the freezer at work (been there a couple of months...my emergency food if ny planning falls through).
We have a culture of quick, nutrient deficient, calorie dense food to accommodate our quick pace of living. Grab and go.
