should women wear dresses/skirts all the time

Got it - I see that now.
It is an interesting use of the word to say that it applies to a woman's dress. The meaning of the word is simply a "letting down". The Vulgate used the word habitus and I assume that is where the Catholic church came up with the idea of a nin's habit.
In general usage the word seems to have been used for the flowing robes worn by royalty.

Tom Cassidy (once a proud member here) used to argue the katastole position. My response was if that was a command for an actual garment, then women ought to obey it.
NOT wear dresses, skirts, jumpers, etc. But only long flowing robes. The bride just walked by me in one as I typed (she has Monday off at the clinic so is home harrassing me).
BTW, my wife wore a dress to church, but will wear slacks/scrubs as a health-care professional the other 6 days. It is her preference. Next Sunday at Dry Creek (new church work in the high plains) she will probably be the only woman in a dress. Ranch wives in November are not as dumb as some of those city gals!!

The women who work on the ranches and come long distances on snow-covered ranch roads are going to be dressed to survive a breakdown or emergency.
My wife (we're from Casper) will be the "dumb" one, wearing a dress.
(And if I was going to call you dumb, it would be for living in Milwaukee!!)

What I find funny is the fact that a lot of people have quoted me as saying, "The people I fellowship with interpret this as saying, 'A woman should not wear the clothes of a man and likewise a man should not wear a woman's garment.' Many people will interpret is differently though."
Note the part where I said, people I fellowship with interpret this. Everyone that has tried to pop back with their opinion is only attacking some of the people I fellowship with. They obviously think that is my staunch opinion. I never said that. All I tried to do was state the verse that I have been told the most. I automatically got nailed and the whole time I kept saying it was by conviction that I wear dresses...NOT BECAUSE OF THE VERSE!!!

Sorry if I come across so harsh, ladies. I am just in a battle with legalism, and the issues of clothing, music, and versions are often tied in with such.
I apologize. If a person desires to dress in a certain way, read a certain Bible, eat certain foods, listen to certain music - that is 100% their right!
God said, "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks."
I have some lifestyle choices that OTHERS feel are legalistic or libertarian. I answer, as do you, to my Master and no one else.

Maybe because many of us have at least one story we could tell where a someone was discouraged by legalistic standards on dress that were much harsher than FBCPastorswife's.
The former pastor's wife went hot and heavy on Deut 22/wear dresses with several of the young women in our church. One couple left and we are still trying to get them back even months after the last pastor left. Another lady was excited and growing in the Lord until she started being badgered about wearing pants by the pastor's wife... She became very discouraged and still hasn't renewed the zeal she once had for the Lord.
People are personally responsible. However, when a supposed leader among the ladies starts hammering this issue, weaker Christians can be unnecessarily discouraged.
Do all the no-pants crowd also have "battlements" on their roofs of their homes (Deut 22:8) so no one falls off. If not they need to go home, repent, and build those battlements.

This is about the third time someone has brought up this type of thing and it is about the weakest argument that could be made. Please read the passage. Verse 5 says to violate its teaching is abomination to the LORD. The other verses don't. Anything that ever was an abomination to God still is - He never changes. So whatever verse 5 teaches, it still applies today. So what does it teach?
The word "legalistic" has been thrown around pretty freely in this discussion, too. How childish to hurl invectives rather than argue Biblically and logically. Just because a person or church has a particular standard does not mean they are legalistic. They are legalistic only if they teach that one's standing before God is dependent on some human effort, whatever that may be.
You missed it, John. The Bible does not say those things are an abomination to God, but to the Jews. Does God change?

Yep, I agree, PastorGreg. I find it difficult calling something "legalistic" if that person truly believes that it is a conviction of the Holy Spirit. Personally, I would be afraid to attribute the work of the Holy Spirit to that which is unholy.
