In the article it mentions that when you use a cellphone, sometimes your phone gets routed to a cell tower that is outside the district of the 911 Dispatch center you connect with. We had a situation where this happened a few years back.

Call came in from my neck of the woods. Call was routed to NC since the cell bounced off the tower on top of the 5000ft mountain above my house, even though the caller was actually in VA. Eventually my dispatch transferred the caller to VA.

Anyway the call was absolutely hilarious, we all keep copies of it. Two city folks had lost their dog and were looking for it and wandered into a cattle pasture. They claimed that:
  • "The cows have us surrounded!"
  • "We're hiding in the bushes to hide from the cows"
  • "We're shining our flashlights on us so that they know we're human"
Eventually they got transferred to one of our country/redneck sheriff's deputies, and the Sheriff's deputy had to give the caller a literal anatomy lesson of how to identify a Bull vs a Cow/Heifer. The conversation with one of our country sheriffs, with a thick accent, trying to get these city folk to understand how to identify a boy beef was absolutely, tear-inducing hilarious.

I few years ago, my land line phone (in the country) malfunctioned. AT&T rep told me they wouldn’t repair the line (costs too much I guess) and suggested I get a cell phone.

I did, and let the LL go.

peace to you
