I would agree with, but in addition that sort of attitude and practice occurs across the world in churches with pastors and deacons too. What you wrote reminds me of the time when I decided to preach on what Jesus preached in the gospels and it was amazing how many people told me it was not deep enough. In and of itself, it is not heretical. It can become cultlike in some cases.
The book is about deprogramming the church and getting back to simple stuff.
The key is obedience to the word.
James 1:22, "But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves."
If they are not doers they are deluded.
