I wonder about us Baptist. When there is trouble in the flock, we will sing "Amazing Grace through gridded teeth. Are other denomations that peculiar too?

Is that one of those "tongue in cheek" answers? If not, I am glad you have not had the misfortune to see what ray is describing. If so, carry on!
Yeah - no - I'm serious. I've been blessed in my church right now (have been there 13 years now) that we've not experienced anything like that. It's sad that others have.
But is there something wrong with praising God amidst a storm? I don't think the "gritted teeth" is too good because then a person's worship is getting muddled by circumstances but to sing Amazing Grace in a storm is wonderful!

This has happened time to time.. Somebody's feelings has been hurt along with anything that you may think of that has actually happened. Baptist are a people that has convictions about any type of church problems and I suppose not only Baptist but other denomations have problems at different times. An example would be, maybe someone would be excluded from membership and some had a difference of opinion over the matter.
There are all kinds of problems that may disrupt fellowship among the brethern. Sometimes these things can distroy a church's fellowship and these kind of problems can cause scares for many years. Something said/done is a hurt to a church.

You are right. GOD expect praise without bitterness in the heart. Sometimes "Old natural Man" takes over. Our feelings in worship should be expected.
I've never understood singing "Standing on the Promises" while they're sitting on the premises. I always have them stand while singing that song. Then there are the people who sing "Oh, How I Love Jesus" while living like the devil, or "I Love to Tell the Story", but they never do.
I don't know how many years I sang songs and never listened to the words and the message in them. Most people have no idea what they're singing--it's just words.
People sing "Take my Life and Let It Be" while they actually mean "Lord, let my life be and let me do it." What about the song "Whatever It Takes"? How many of us are actually willing for God to do WHATEVER it takes to make us holy and what He wants us to be? We sing the songs, but do we really mean the words that we sing? Are they just meaningless words to us?

Too many people in churches are like my dad was. He put on a pious act at church and was loved by all those who didn't have to live with him. He loved the praise of people for carpentry work he did in the church basement. He had honey dripping from his lips when talking with the folks at church, but at home he was mean and nasty. I loved Friday nights, because he got drunk and treated me good then.

Well the way I see it if you did'nt get any blessing out of the song or the serves it because of you and no one else. I learn I get alot more blessings if I point the finger at myself. If there is something among us that is not for God will we pray for it to be removed. We do it by the love of God. Nothing can go wrong if you come together in the Lords name. :thumbs:
So true. I've been touched so many times by the words of old hymns while singing.
