Snow on Sunday

I kinda like the idea of dying on my way to church. What better way to get to heaven ?
Seriously, we get a lot of snow up here in Massatucky, but it never sticks around too long. We have such a small church, that the 4-wheelers go around & pick everyone up, then after the service the men go & shovel everyone out, & then...we feast. I love snowy Sundays. I wouldn't encourage everyone to do this, but I haven't seen a service cancelled yet...Praise The Lord.

We get some bad winter weather out here also, we tend to call them Nor'easter, that is when we get way more than just 6" of snow.
At our church we have been running busses for almost 8 years now. We go out no matter the condition, rain,snow,ice,sleet,hail,or even sunny. When it snows outside none of the church members expects a phone call, and we don't make one either, we know their is going to be church. The way we see it as God controls the weather, God wants us to be in church every Sunday, so God is not going to hinder us from attending, it is all about faith,God is testing our faith. We never had any accidents in the snow, RELAX GOD IS IN CONTROL! We did however have alot of services start really late, but we still were there and God has blessed.

We are supposed to get a good storm today and tomorrow. 8-10 inches in the city, which means in the northern subs we will get 10-12 at least, along with a good mix of freezing rain and sleet predicted, a good ole michigan ice storm. We will have church tonight, but it will be down since the white stuff is already flying, and people get a little freaked out. Hey, maybe I won't be able to make it to work tomorrow, that would be nice! Of course, it could all be a mistake and it will be a balmy 56 degrees tomorrow like it was on Monday. Sounds like Golfing weather!

Not for us Floridians? Shoot, I was hoping for snow!
When my husband was a student pastor in rural western Nebraska, there was a very snowy weekend. We debated about whether to drive the 40 miles to the country church or to attend the local community church. However, duty won out. About 20 miles from home, we topped a hill and saw a two foot deep drift about 30 feet long that we were going to have to plow through. So my husband revved the motor and we attempted to plow through the drift. We almost made it, got stuck with about 10 feet to go. Someone came along about an hour later from the other direction and pulled us out with a winch. By the time we were close to the church it was already noon. We might as well have cancelled in the first place. It did help us to have discernment in cancelling later services, since our congregation were all farmers living in the wide open spaces with lots of wind and drifts.
There was one other time we thought about cancelling services and didn't. The temperature was about 20 below zero with a wind chill of about 40 below. However, our car loved cold weather (it actually ran better at 10 below than at 10 above), so we went to the church. We attempted to heat the church, but the thermocoupler on the furnace chose that Sunday to quit working. We held church huddled around an old gas space heater. We had about 10 people come out that Sunday.
