    www.churchmedia.net is a site that I use a LOT to get backgrounds and video slides for worship. The have a bunch of count-down videos - WELL worth joining if you use a projector for church.

    In our church, people talk a lot before church - not so much before the first service but definately before the second - because people are there leaving from the first and coming in for he second. It's great. Once worship begins, however, things settle down fast and we focus on God.

    Our pastor might begin the sermon time with an announcement or two of his own but otherwise, he's right into Scripture. We're going through Romans (we're more than 1/2 way through chapter 1 in 6 months!!), so we have to get right to what we're learning about that week!! All of our messages come straight from Scripture, so straight to Scripture we go.

    I want to get this straight . Some of you believe that being reverent or solemn is the same as being dead or wearing a frown . Being earnest , thinking seriously upon the Lord -- being sober-minded -- is merely formalistic or ritualistic . Is that what some of you think ?

    I grew up IFB. I never heard the Bible read in church. Not once. The pastor carried a Bible, but he was the only one. It was never opened.

    Ours is an IFB dominated area, so I see a lot of no-Bible preaching. I avoid it at all costs. I don't want to waste my time.

    Reverence in worship is a lost notion. Again, too much chit-chat, Southern Gospel idol worship, and begging Aunt Bessie to come sing a "special."

    I grew up IFB and the Bible was read every Sunday and if you didn't have one you were in the minority, even as a child. The preaching was biblical, right from the text of Scripture.

    IFBs like SBCs are of great variety. There are good and bad.

    The exact countdown I was talking about is at www.SermonSpice.com. Click on the "Countdowns" tab. It's the first one listed, "Names of God".

    Our church usually doesn't use the music that comes with this countdown, they usually replace it with a different song.

    Studies In The Scripture ( from the preface ) .

    God has said in His Word , ' He that believeth shall not make haste ' ( Isa. 28:16 ) , and if ever there was a time when his children needed to give special heed to this admonition it is now . The children of God are infected with the spirit of the world . The mad rush which characterizes everything around us , the awful hustle and bustle of the ungodly as they rush headlong to eternal death , has affected the members of the household of faith ; and few , if any of us , are free from it .     I think there must be a balance. Silence for the sake of silence is no more health for a church than talking for the sake of talking.

    I don't know if it is the when that you are bothered by or the where.

    I know some folks that feel the the sanctuary is a place of reverence and therefore greeting on another and laughing should stop upon entering the building. I do not agree with that point of view in that there is nothing about a building that is sacred.

    I agree that there should be a time of preparation. We typically "socialize" until the service begins. When we begin we do so with welcoming guests making announcements and then offering an invocation that includes dedicating the service to the Lord and acknowledging need and dependence upon Him.

    I thing the when we socialize can be poorly timed but I am not concerned so much with the where.
